Re: No Hoplites for Sparta?

Use the terrain along with the proper army type. Fortify there. If they declare war. Wait there for them. Inside cities is also good. Use trade to improve diplomatic relations. Even gift them stuff if needed. Use a morale booster vs their troops through the diplomacy screen. But remember, you can't ...

Re: Matrix thread.

You have to pay for the unit's upkeep whether it is active or not and this applies for self-healing and healing in a city. That is true for sure but self-healing can take up to 20 turns (depending on the actual damage), recovering only up to 8 (depending on the actual damage) and healing inside is ...

Re: Impressive game

I've beaten the game with Rome at legendary during beta. If you can master Hard with Rome, you can win on Heroic and Legendary also. Even with the same tactics (I used the same from easy to legendary for testing purposes). You just need to be a bit lucky and be a whole lot more carefull with spendin...

Re: Installed and cannot get to run on screen

UI scaling is an option in the settings menu. That will probably work for you. :)
Interesting to see it can actually boot on a MAC. But it remains a gamble as it hasn't been tested.

Re: Settlers.

Tbh there are situations where I have that myself as a player. Many settlers, and high tech, but fewer armies.
When I want to expand my infrastructure fast, and found some settlements quickly to "claim" land.
That's when this situation might happen.

Re: City size.

Bigger cities produce more and have better defense.
1 city of 9 is way better production wise then 3 cities of 3.
But tbh, I never focus much on city size.
I like to have many to claim land and give supply to my armies.

Re: A Brief Alternative History of the Roman Republic

Wouldn't you wanna continue and finish the job? From the screenshots it seems you only have half the map controlled.
That's one of the reasons I don't like artificial victory conditions. :)

Re: Finally Got the Game!

I think with minor tweaks the ability to keep an empire together could be made a whole lot harder.
The thing is, what goes for the AI also goes for the players since both use the same rules.
Most players would really be pissed off if their 30 hours of hard work would be shattered in 1 sec. ;)

Re: Finally Got the Game!

2) THE BLOB: One of the reasons I have never really cared for this kind of game (eg, like Civilization), is that sooner or later you inevitably run into THE BLOB: the dominant power in the game which wages war against all factions, all the time, and yet has a bigger army and better tech than you, a...

There was someone else with the same problem. I just can't find the topic anywhere on the forums here or on Steam. I'm sure Pavel knows where to find it.

Re: [DEVELOPER'S CALL] Do you want to help us with new scenarios?

What ancient region are you looking for? You might want to make it more specific. Ancient history teachings and interests can vary a lot from continent to continent. Some people could make a fascinating game about the Chinese, Japanese, or Mayan history. Others would go for Macedonia, Rome or the Mo...

Re: More First Impressions?

So I'm about 50 pages into the manual (250pp! ), but have another question: to what extent do the different nations feel like, well, different nations, instead of the same nations with different skins, etc.? Presumably there is a different feel between the civilized and barbarian nations, b...

Re: More First Impressions?

Interesting, thanks. Another question--roughly how many units/fleets are you commanding? Does that number increase dramatically as the game goes on? Playing with Rome I end up with about 20 fully upgraded units on land and 15 on the sea. But I heavily invest in city upgrades and pacify cities befor...
