Re: Britcon 2018

Unfortunately, they are migrating to a certain Polish set of Renaissance rules, if they remain wargaming this period. At least this rule set treats dragoons in a sensible way.

Re: Bows

If the change stands I am afraid my Ming will take the field under v1 or another set of rules as this changes what I perceive to be how the eastern battles went during this period.

Re: Updates - where we are at

Hi, How close are we to getting a final version of the rule revision? At the moment at the club we have split between the few competition players who use the new rules whilst the majority are sticking with the original rule set with minor revisions. Hopefully when a final version is published this w...

Re: List Changes

Hi, To be fair to Vespasian I no longer field any dragoons in my TYW or ECW armies unless I have spare points, before the rule change they were always present. As a response to an issue that i have never encountered on the table top, the rule change has emasculated this troop type. A missed opportun...

Re: Length of games

Hi, If you go back and look at the threads on commanded shot & dragoons you will see the different view points. Personally I do not like the changes to the dragoons , if we put a late ECW game at the club house rules will have to be in place. As for commanded shot , club members who are far more...

Length of games

Hi, Out of interest how are people finding the full amended rules with regard to the time it is taking to get a result in a game in both competition and club games. I must admit the increase in the number of horse units and the increased staying power of average units has increased the time my games...

Re: Bows

Hi, Thanks for the update although it is a pity that bow v warriors was not that prevalent at the comp. My input is based on using the Ming. Using the new rules I have noticed that warrior based historical opponents such as Indonesian & Burmese are now very difficult to win against as their warr...

Hi, I am not sure that with the state of our eye sight even a telescope will help. Also if you got hold of your opponrnts battle plan would that help! Keep deployment as it is

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting

Just a note the reduced points changes are having a quite an effect on the Italian Wars period. Looking at my Maximilian Imperial army for this years Southern League I find the points cost is reduced by over 100 points. Great for more Lansknechte who will now be average, unless the army points are r...

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting

Hi, Madeaxeman hints at the main issue with the rule change for Dragoons. Unless we are going to look at getting a lot more of the right type of terrain on the table the rule changes makes the Dragoon battlegroup almost worthless. It certainly will not be able to reflect the way Dragoons appear to b...

Now if the amended rules increase the cost of field fortifications or ban them outright for Vespasians Spanish that would be interesting

Re: Bows

Hi I have always commanded Chinese forces covering all periods. One of the joys of FOGR was that I could happy recreate the Imjin War using my Ming against the Japanese. However, the change in the short range of bows/crossbows to 3MU which is the same as for the Japanese teppo (arquebus) has made a ...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules

Hi, As per Jhykronos "but follow the arguments in the discussion threads... neither change you mention was prompted by "competition concerns", they were prompted by concerns over the historical behavior of the troops compared to how they were used on the table. Of course, you may very...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules

To be fair to Don these changes, apart from the artillery rule change do appear to be driven by competition concerns. This rule set has been heavily used at our club and we never had issues with the way commanded shot and dragoons were portrayed in the rule set. We are trying out the changes but fro...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules

Last Saturday 13 games set up at our club. 5 renaissance games , 4 FOGR & 1 Gush ,( and it was so slow) . It would help if we can have an official beta rule change summary so we are all trying things out in the same manner. I think we all are looking forward to how Oxford finds the amendment's. ...

Re: Early TYW Swedish armies

I was talking over the rule changes with a regular opponent who uses a Swedish army for FOGR. He comes to the table looking to try and recreate the way the Swedes fought on the battle field , on which he has a vast store of knowledge. Following his comments on commanded shot in particular I doubt he...

Re: Sundry List Changes - proposal

Just had two games of Poles v Swedish circa 1662. Winged Hussars used as impact mounted , pistol. The change resulted in a much better performance by the Hussars being up on impact , then evens in melee when facing the Swedish determined horse.i will now base my third hussar unit.

Re: BG Autobreak - proposal

Well perhaps now the Swiss will be allowed back in competitions. As we know from last year, the Scots were almost unbeatable even before the new auto break rules, perhaps they will be the army which can not be taken to competitions or perhaps the next Southern League competition will just become a S...

Re: Play Test

In my own clumsy way I was trying to get to the same position as stated by KevinJ. If we are using markers for CS & RM guns we should be consistent in how they are used let's not make the rule set more complex.
