Re: Syracuse: Endless Seige??

aye, assuming you have supply coming in the AI is often unwilling to risk an assault on a well defended city. you could gamble on moving your field army out by sea and see if there is a region you could conquer? or wait till the peace chance comes up? I believe a garrison that's trying to ship out ...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

Guys, are you fighting or are you just going to throw threats from the other side of the pavement? Come on! Have you worked for the UN very long 13obo ? Don't fret .....When this turn comes back there will be a change in status  well if you need a Pictish peacekeeping force ... we are availab...

I'd guess because you already own them all?

All factions have a limited list, so early on you get new ones but at some stage you've exhausted them all

Re: How do trade acumen work?

Few bits to this. If you are allied then their regions are treated as your own territory for trade purposes - otherwise there is a malus against trading outside your own boundaries. But, you still pay full cost (as opposed to the 50% for a purely internal trade) - of course so do they. This is why t...

Re: Shortest / Unuckiest Game Ever?

that is impressive

'best' I managed was a 17 turn descent to complete disaster with the Armenians. It seemed the only thing that the Seleucids and Antiochids agreed on was to eradicate me from the map (and they were AI controlled too)

Re: A couple newbie questions?

1 - no, just to access the resource, but the fishery has other benefits (gold income etc) 2 - yes, same for all the minerals (so gold-gold mine etc) 3 - slowly, set your message setting to average (in general this is a good idea) and you'll see the conversion messages. For most states the base rate ...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

Away from the "little local difficulty" of the events in and around Arabia it seems a new regional conflict, drawing in several nations may be unfolding over the Syracuse land grab in Italy...... The Seleucuds remain occupied with the ferocious war in the East... Meanwhile the locust like Antigonid...

Re: Abandoned Palace Used For Stones

its basically good, the abandoned palace is disbanded and you get a bit of infrastructure. I don't think you have any control, I've seen it the turn after taking a region and then 30-50 turns later (or never). Good? well that building was generating some decadence. Bad? it was generating some legacy.

Re: Suggestion: Multiplayer Conditional Acceptance

just sticking to my view (Pocus being on holiday). what I'm sure of: the Slitherine server is the only way to play MP for Empires, so the old AGEOD hosting is not an option (i'd suspect this is hardwired deep into the ARCHON game engine). I think this hasn't been an issue in FoG2 (but haven't played...

Re: Suggestion: Multiplayer Conditional Acceptance

here's my interpretation. everyone loads up their own save - this keys off the data on their own build. So if you have changed unit/building/faction parameters this data is embedded in the save. once everyone has loaded the slitherine server (not the host as in the old AGEOD PBEM) runs the turn, usi...

Re: Best garrison troops?

I use 3 different 'garrison' builds. If its purely as a police force - internal region, suppress unrest, then purely skirmishers. I think its unit number that remove revolt risk so this is cheap and effective. If I think it could be attacked - coastal region or whatever, I'll put in 5+ mediums just ...

Re: Maurya has one unique structure: the Abu Parvat Fortress.

yes, it gives the faction a lot of flexibility that is otherwise lacking (since to expand purely on the map means war with the Seleucids)

Re: Maurya has one unique structure: the Abu Parvat Fortress.

the in-game tool-tip gives a lot of information, but basically it allows you to shift units off map to the east (you get benefits for this) or back to the on-map west as needed

Re: How to get archers for Rome

In Empires, archers are a very specific unit (with some nice traits). As Rome you have two potential sources - if you reach the Imperial legion, you also get the option to build the Sagitarrius (so an armoured archer unit). Beyond that, you'll need to take some provinces in western Asia Minor or the...

Re: Army Losing Combat Power

good, glad it was an easy one. I think it stood out as you had such an unusual army (only phalanxes) whereas normally as you move across the terrain types the differences are marginal or even partially balanced as some units move into their favoured terrain while others pick up a malus of some sort

Re: Too much money?

I thnk there is a particularly Greek/Hellene issue here. by the time you are regularly building tier II commerce buildings the Stoa is just too much. Here's one from my current game - 2019-08-13_115806.jpg team that with a market and a couple of those clothing/weaving buildings and you can be produc...

Re: How does raid work?

I know it can damage other countries. But can I loot some money for raiding? yes - make sure you have the message level set to average and you'll see your gains, can be very profitable. but if you are a civ level 1 tribe be careful - the resulting slaves can really unbalance your capital. In additi...
