Re: MP lobby: Thracian 460-351 BC shows wrong army name

As far as I know the only script that reads the NAME tag from the ArmyList.txt file is the CheckArmyListNames() function that does the aforementioned integrity check (when I remember to run it). Yes, this is exactly where I found the clue. Searching *.bsf for NAME (whole word / match case) found on...

Re: MP lobby: Thracian 460-351 BC shows wrong army name

The ONE TIME you didn’t run the error check... :D I came about this backwards, I noticed the entry was wrong in ArmyList.txt but everything looked fine in-game (SP). I did some searching and found the script that reads this data was in a function for MP, and only then did I figure out how to reprodu...

MP lobby: Thracian 460-351 BC shows wrong army name

Minor issue I found: If a MP challenge is created using list Thracian 460-351 BC, it is incorrectly displayed as Thracian 680-461 BC. This is because file Core\ArmyList.txt has wrong entry in section [LE_THRACIAN]:

NAME IDS_ARMY_E_THRACIAN
should be
NAME IDS_ARMY_LE_THRACIAN

Re: PDF: FoG2 Army List Descriptions

Just a quick note: I’ve been keeping the PDF up to date with the latest official patches (e.g. after they leave beta). I’ve also added hyperlinks from the table of contents to the army list page, and updated each entry to indicate which map set is considered its “home” default (e.g. Mediterranean, M...

Re: Terrain type for an army

I updated the Army List Description PDF to include the map set for each army list, I thought this would be useful to have and it won’t be too difficult for me to maintain.

Re: Terrain type for an army

I did some poking around in the data files and found the home climate (map set) per army list is in Core\ArmyList.txt. To find the map set for a specific army list: 1. Open Data\Text2.txt, search for the army list name, e.g. “Carthaginian 262-236 BC”. This will give you the army list ID: IDS_ARMY_EL...

I had the same problem. If it can’t find the save directory, it will crash. It should show you what dir it is trying to use, try to manually create that (full path) in Windows Explorer.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020

My first attempt is 700BC, I thought a single opponent in China would be a good introduction. On turn 2 a second Chinese rival appeared, and on turn 3 a Mongolian horde appeared, all within 2 spaces of my capital. “May you live in interesting times,” indeed. Good stuff. I am trying to keep to the li...

Re: Field of Glory II Silk Road Mod updated to v1.7

Tried this mod out this week for the first time (paired with campaign tool by Nijis) and am awestruck by how much you were able to pack into a free “DLC”. A very belated thank you so much jomni for producing this and sharing it, I should have checked it out a long time ago.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020

Thanks Nijis, the latest version + AAR prompted me to check out two great add-ons that I have known about for a while but never tried: your campaign tool + jomni’s Silk Road mod! Having a great time mixing it up in China with lists that are totally new to me. I appreciate your hard work on this and ...

Re: Archers too weak

I like to take advantage of the fact that archers can shoot through a gap in the line and set up like this: [I] [I] [I] [I] [I][A][I][A][I][A] The archers A are protected from being charged as long as either of the infantry I in front them are facing forward and not in melee. When the enemy gets clo...

Grand Campaign goes until 190CE, not BCE - so you still have quite a few turns left to spread your culture (500 turns total).

Re: Combat Rolls Regenerated??

I am guilty of save scumming too. Sometimes I see the AI do something silly like using militia instead of light horse for skirmishers, or I find I am the attacker when I thought I would be defender and I have reloaded in these cases. I think if you reload from auto save and simply end your turn righ...

I feel your pain... Today I witnessed a defensive battle where all my support units were the free garrison units, while the provincial skirmishers in the stack were not involved in the fighting at all.

Determination of Attacker / Defender does not match manual

The manual says this about determination of Attacker / Defender (10.7.1): Each side is either defending or attacking. The defender in a battle is the side with the biggest number of units not having moved this impulse (the only exception to this is if the defenders have sortied from a besieged city)...

Re: Warband vs Mediocre Legionaire

I am not arguing that Warband is better than Legionary, just pointing out that the matchup may not be as lopsided as you originally thought. On a pure 1v1 battle, I would put my money on Legionary but you have to work with what your chosen list gives you and maximize your strengths / minimize your w...

Re: Warband vs Mediocre Legionaire

Both types of Warband are 4 points more expensive than Mediocre Legionary. Also the armor POA difference between Armoured and Protected is +25, not +50. Loose order is type Warrior, which means they are the ones that suffer a cohesion penalty vs. Heavy Foot - close order does not. Loose order is NOT...
