The UI message is a bit confusing, but the actual rules are working as intended. In the second example your unit is making a free 45 degree turn, moving, then trying to make a charge that requires another 45 degree turn. That isn't permitted

Don't worry, FOG2M shows that message for STEAM and GOG users, but it doesn't have any significance. The standalone Slitherine version uses a different game registration system from STEAM and GOG.

Richard my understanding is that if a unit is visible to one unit in an army it is assumed through communication channels it is "visible" to all units. It is not a bug, however weird it may seem. The system intentionally only takes into account the overall change of direction from the starting position to the final position when determining turn costs incurred in making a move. They were all in the ZOC of both commanders. So when you clicked on one general all 16 units were highlighted and click on the other general and all 16 units were highlighted. So they were all in one command, which is fine if one of them was the C-in-C. What makes you think one general had 8 units ...
