The Treaty is named after Callias who was an Athenian statesman belonging to one of the richest families in the city-state. He was known to have held the prestigious position of torchbearer (dadouchos) in the rites of the Eleusinian Mysteries cult Firstbank card.

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

Sorry for the delay... I've now accepted the game.

By the way, my Dacian horde hates everyone outside of... Dacia!

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

I'm currently scouting Lycia at present ( I'm actually on holiday in Lemnos... Lycia is the closest equivalent on the map) so don't be surprised if Dacia heads South  . I'm keeping abreast of the situation (via my tablet) so hopefully won't miss the start... I've also brought a laptop with me ...

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

I'll take the advice that was offered, and I ignored, before the last game.. put me down for Dacia.

I like the challenge of the smaller countries... hopefully I'm smarter and wiser to last a little longer now.

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

Btw, I agree with ledo that this sharing of private communique on the public forum (seen in the other MP game out there) to be terribly bad taste . Diplomacy is done on the basis of trust and when that is not possible, then there can be no diplomacy. Could we agree not to share private messages? Fo...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

I'm still interested, but I go on vacation for a week from Saturday 7th and returning late on Saturday 14th, so if the game starts before then it'll have to be without me... you won't miss me, based on my last performance! Judea is an interesting one: I've played SP games where Judea has conquered a...

Re: Ethnic, loyalty, unrest, and ideal pop size seems backwards

bumping this thread because people seem to think culture converting your pop is a good thing.... Note it was written before the change to max 8 unrest for main ethnic. However it doesnt change the fact they are in most cases the worst pop type. Also worth noting as i didn't noticed before but other...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

Yes, I'm willing to try that. Given the spread of the Tier 2-3 locations it would bias the game more towards diplomacy and trade and give time for countries to build before war comes. What's a good list of interesting tier 2 powers that border the majors? - Epirus - Athens/Aetolia/Achaea - Pontus -...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

I wonder if the game would be better if the Tier 1 countries were excluded as playable armies? I think that would be a very interesting game if all the humans took tier 2 powers and worked together to try and divide the tier 1 powers, creating new empires in the process. After that, we'd have a new...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

Elaborating on what devoncop said- let's breakdown starting nations' strength into four components: economy current (EC), economy potential (EP), military current (MC), military potential (MP). EC is the starting buildings and number of regions a nation has, EP is what you for your economy based on...

Did you trade legacy for an army, or hire mercs from surrounding regions?

These are 2 of the events that you may have utilised to create this. If not, then you may have discovered something...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

Yes (Glutton for punishment) I'd be prepared to play again. However I wonder, since the game is based on historical locations, strengths, weaknesses, etc. whether the game is essentially self-limiting regarding who can win? Given the effectiveness of the Macedonia / Antigonid alliance then what is t...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

Even with hindsight and the same players I suspect that nothing could be done to stop Antigonids and Macedonia if they chose to ally. The only starting nations that could make a difference are the other Diadochi. I think Rome and Carthage need 50 turns to be in a position to make a difference and th...

Re: Losing Battles

The previous points cover it nicely; Generals, Terrain, Support Units, Experience and Frontage. Frontage is quite important. In one of my SP games I frequently have an army of 40 fighting armies of 200 and winning. This is mainly because I have very experience cretan archers owning the skirmish phas...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

I'm lucky no Roman or Carthage ships scouted the Epirus coast, because I spent like 8 turns hanging out while pnoff marched up the Illyrian coast. The AI also delayed things a bit since Tarentum repeatedly refused my assistance despite being at war with Rome. And then the initial invasion ran into ...

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game

I agree with much that is said here. If the Macedonia and Antigonid alliance is allowed to flourish from the start then there is little hope for anyone. The only question would be who would ultimately win out of these 2 countries. The challenge for the rest is to survive until these 2 turn on each o...

Re: Leaving MP game

In one of my games (the Epirus game!) I got beaten and lost all my land in the first few turns (I never surrendered). I still get the game in my active game list and I still 'play the game' (which involves watching the turn action - all I can see is the Epirus lands and the armies and navies around ...
