Re: Rex Britannorum

Yep. It seems we have got as many interested as is going to happen, so it's army choosing time! There are no limits on army selection so choose whatever you want from the list. I'll be trying my luck with the later Scots-Irish list.

Rex Britannorum

With the advent of the Age of Belisarius, there are some fun lists for the British Isles. Is anyone one interested in a simple, casual, everyone-plays-everyone tournament/campaign thing for bragging rights as King (or Queen) of the Britons? Available armies are: Anglo-Saxon 449 - 599AD Pictish 210 -...

Re: Rise of the AI - Rallying rigged?

Thanks for the replies. Having seen (and been guilty of) confirmation bias I try to be a bit more objective - I was monitoring ‘good’ events as well :) You have both hit the nail on the head and my only defence is I was tired and not thinking it through: as the potential subject group increases, so ...

Rise of the AI - Rallying rigged?

After a bit of a break I've been FoGging again for the last few days, practising against the Rise of the AI mod. I don't know whether it's just a statistical anomaly but, in the last 5 or 6 games, when I've got the AI to ~40% and I am 15% or less, it rallies like you wouldn't believe - in one case, ...

Re: Automatic pursuit is not accurate

I've endured your snarkiness before so I am not surprised by this comment. Considering you are a proponent of having this game play like chess, isn't that like throwing rocks in a glass house? I didn't make the movement system. To be honest units should be moving in small cohort of troops not indiv...

Re: Romanes Eunt Domus! Matches & Results

Hello all you lovely people and apologies for my absence. Work has been much more manic than expected (being sent abroad more often than I expected) so I'm getting little time to play, let alone run a tournament. I'm now going to be out of the loop until the beginning of March at the earliest. So, r...

Re: Too Many Double Breaks

I’m with 76mm on this one. For my taste, there are far too many two-step losses in straight up, nothing fancy, head-on combat.

Re: Auto-evasion

Uncontrolled and unpredictable war bands and shock cavalry in FoG I were great. If costed appropriately, they make for an extremely interesting approach to the game; you absolutely must have an up front plan, deploy for it and then let the madness happen. In a top-down game we generally do not have ...

Re: More Comments and Questions After 10 Days

With regard to point 6, if a skirmisher starts the opponent's turn directly in front of a mounted unit and is charged, it doesn't evade because it 'knows' it will get caught and gibbed in the back. I eventually learned this from experience and some tips here on the forum from RBS (and the sacrifice ...

Re: Anything To Encourage Aggression?

I'm on the fence on this one. I'm generally of the 'March or Die!' persuasion (or march and die in my case) and will attack in most cases, but I can't blame someone for holdong tight in superior terrain if the random map gifts it to them. This is especially true for some army lists that will pretty ...

Re: Unit fall backs?

So, for example, what would happen wargame-wise if I were to design a Milvian Bridge scenario, where Emperor Maxentius - for reasons best known to himself - defended Rome in front of the Tiber after carefully having destroyed the main bridge which was his only route to safety? Historically his infe...

Re: Unit fall backs?

The way it currently works adds some value to having a second line (or recycling your skirmishers as a support line).

Re: Romanes Eunt Domus! Matches & Results

Hello all!

Sorry for my absence and thanks for your patience! I had a few weeks of being posted abroad that weren't expected and then some minor surgery. I'm waiting on a challenge from Ulysisgrunt and I think that and the Zygfryd/Doyley match will finish the round.
