Re: Battle of Five armies FOG

We are also working on that! So I will post our lists soon. But I think that a classical approach is the best option: Heavy weapon dwarfs, bow elf and so on. In any case it has to be a big battle! If not five :( , it must have more than two armies /commanders.

Re: FOG Renaissance.

Can you help me out I don't under stand how playing elfs in FOGR differs from playing them in FoG Well I have not tried them yet, (still rebasing!) So is only a personal impression. But we played some late medieval games using FOGR and there are some differences with FOGAM . A 1000pts WOR type army...

Re: FoG:AM v2 - improvement suggestions for electronic forma

I see! Thanks for the answer. A pity, as IMO Android is the ideal support for a set of digital rules. My FOGAM Book is almost new, so the idea of having to buy a second one doesn’t appeal too much to me. (Better not to talk about all those list supplements!) :(

Is the V2 for Android still a possibility or the idea has been definitively abandoned?

Re: Skirmishing cavalry in Woods

It seems that a certain consensus has been achieved by now, that some change must be done about the rules of fire and combat in terrain. I will suggest doing that via a change in the POAs when in terrain, or in some types of it. We think to play for now on that at least in difficult terrain nobody g...

Re: FOG Renaissance.

Thanks’. About the Elves: They are probably one of principal races to be balanced, as in FOGAM longbow + superior make them too expensive and powerful. In FOGR with bow, even with superior or elite status they would be more playable and the army will gain a certain decadent aspect! About magic, I ag...

FOG Renaissance.

Is anyone using FOGR for fantasy? I think that it will provide for a more “sinister” background, and for a better balance between the different races.

Re: 1700 to 1762

The problem with specific rules for the “Age of reason” period is that they assume that the standard system of combat in the era is the parallel linear battle. i.e that the battle is center in the confrontation of parallel lines of infantry that use the “linear tactics “ and met each other at short ...

Re: terrain, combat and number of dice

Thanks for the answers I oversight the point about not been allowed to form square in terrain, but as we play SYW, we only form square when surrounded by enemy units, so I think it must be allowed in such a case. I certainly agree with the interpretation that the automatic lost of cohesion for been ...

Re: 1700 to 1762

Yes, FOGR without pikes seems odd! But when I got the “1660-1698” supplement I was surprised how much some of the armies (Late French, Austria or German states) look like the ones we used on our FOGR SYW games. And even without pikes FOGR works well. :D

terrain, combat and number of dice

Some situations arouse in our last game, which I will like to check. A unit in rough or difficult terrain or in square counts as "other troops or situations", and have 4 or 6 (large) dices. But what happen with a unit in square and in terrain? Does it still have 4 or 6 or must lost additional dice (...

Re: 1700 to 1762

We have been playing SYW battles with FOG for almost two years by now. (25mm!) We begin with FOG(R), and even if we play a number of very enjoyable games they didn’t really look like SYW. We then tried FOG(N) with better success. With a minimum of rules change (line) games runs very smoothly, with t...

Thanks’ both for your posts. About a refight, I think not (the French player had already suggest that with a smile I dint like!) I will try to change now the history in Monongahela. And if that also fails let’s hope Frederick could win at Rossbach again….

Battle of Hastenbeck 1757

This scenario is based on the battle of Hastenbeck fought on 1757-07-26 between the French army and the allied one commanded by the duke of Cumberland . I used as a reference the article of the battle on Kronoskaff. The scenario was center on the initial allied left flank, to the south of the villag...

Re: 1700 to 1762

We use battalion guns in our first games, one artillery attachment for regular line unit. That means a lot of guns! And it didn’t work! The infantry battle tended to be a middle range firefight between the artillery attachments, and was quite unrealistic. We have obviously not play enough games to r...

Re: 1700 to 1762

We have played SYW battles for a year using FOGN with great success. The only important rule changes we made were: Square can’t be formed as a reaction to being assaulted, only in the movement phase as a complex move. Units in extended line don’t have a - 1 dice on cohesion test. Regimental guns are...

Re: Battle of Hastenbeck 1757

Well we are now in the process of rebasing, so probably will not play it before Christmas, I’m afraid. We have found that in the games we have played so far there is no need of any change of rules to achieve a good SYW game. The most problematic point is the relation between cavalry and infantry. Bu...
