Re: Reward for historical Formation

Totally agree. I've read the post of Cheimison in the main forum about" The Cambridge History of Greek and Roman Warfare " book and I've found it very interesting but there are other several historical resources that certify the use of reserve in ancient warfare. Of course, the concept of reserve ca...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

Yes, tactical reserves are very much modern military doctrine. Strategic reserves are also a modern thing. There is no evidence that any ancient army ever intentionally kept troops in reserve behind a theater of operations. Most history and science fiction tactical/strategic games are basically WW2...

Re: WHO’S LEFT?

It should not be named FoG 2: it's clearly an ancient warfare evolution of P&S saga. Several FoG's gameplay mechanics have been cut off, officially for "design decisions" but it's clear that it's all about the different engine. It's not a bad game: interface and graphics are amazing, maybe on of the...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

IMO one of the main historical feature that is not reproduced in this game (and in many if not all games) is that there is no sense (or there is only a little sense) to use more than one line of cohorts. IMO there should be some way to withdraw from melee by infantry units without being routed and ...

Re: Generals

There are several "omissis" in FoG 2 which in my humble opinion seem to come from engine's limits rather than "deliberate design decision". With the exception of the army movement (which is a nice feature but nothing amazing) anything that is not the previous titles (P&S and and Shadow of the Shogun...

Re: Generals

The gameplay is someway streamlined to have a better experience vs the ai compared to FoG 1 and I have to say that the goal is perfectly achieved. On the other hand, playing vs human it's not so exciting as it is with FoG 1, at least for me , considering there are too much "mechanics" missing (secon...

Re: Slingers vs Javelinmen

And that's why I think that, at the moment, FoG 2 it's a great, a huge step forward as to single player and graphics but some step back as to multiplayer and tactical gameplay. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm not particulary excited about FoG 2 gameplay, although I'm not a very skilled player you may count on my presence here if needed .

Re: Changes needed to some nations/mechanics

The issue is not just about the Parthians scenario, it's almost impossible to weaken enemies with every kind of light unit, in my humble opinion this is really an issue which needs some revision.

Re: How to play with horse archer nations?

I have noticed too that weaken unit status seems very difficult now and the "5-turn at full ammo" rule it's another thing that doesn't help to make yours light forces too useful .... :|

Re: The Lack of Generals

I have been thinking about this. Maybe one way of doing it is to give every army a C-in-C, but then players would have to buy any additional sub-generals? And maybe the maximum number of sub-generals available could be adjusted according to the size of the battle? So for the smaller battles players...

Re: FOG2 Developer’s Diary – Innovations and Differences

Is there any chanche to reconsider the choice to remove camps? Morevoer, are we going in the future the have just new army pack dlc or may we expect brand new gameplay features like new skills/abilities for units (I very like the square formation for phalanges for ex, or the different battle v...

It is definitely a huge step forward as for graphics but I'm not so sure as for gameplay.

Re: FOG2 Developer’s Diary – Innovations and Differences

Are camps still in multiplayer games with the chance to "sack" them? No. They are sort of a marmite thing. We went without them. Thanks a lot for reply but it's a bit sad to hear about that, it's quite obvious that , as I was worried about, everything that was not in Pike and Shot it's not now in F...

Re: A review of Field of Glory II is up on AWNT

"This game has been misnamed; it should not be Field of Glory II, but Field of Glory IV or V. The game is that much better than the original Field of Glory. I was not a fan at all of the older game, but I did only play it against the AI."

I stopped at that.

Re: Future of Field of Glory II

OK, fair enough. All I can say to that is...hurry up and take my money! personally, i dream of Napoleonic Era Field of Glory game.. :) Napoleonic would be interesting too, but all of these other periods have been really well covered by a multitude of games. Not as tactical turn-based. Which i...
