My Dailami army

All Old Glory figs. I used their Syrian foot because they're modeled in chainmail and they also have a good mix of sword, axe and spear. While they do have teardrop shields, I found an account saying teardrop shields came into use when the Dailmai were employed by the Fatimids. I am looking forward ...

Re: 15mm Naked Gallic army

Command stands + camp = finish line! Great Xyston figs mixed in with Old Glory. If I were to paint Gauls again, I'd try the Blue Moon line next. Now, lets see how they fight. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9N9CE4q4scQ/Ue2SkeveRiI/AAAAAAAAD4k/M7qtLUA07_E/w1286-h806-no/P1060190.JPG https://lh6.goo...

Re: Help me with my 800 point Gallic & Galatian lists

Graham!

Excellent suggestion, I've updated my list to 2 x 12 Gaesati. From here, I'll run both lists and see how it turns out. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Re: Help me with my 800 point Gallic & Galatian lists

Thanks Berthier, that helps. I reworked the Gallic list to conform. 3 TC + 1 Gaesati ally TC 3 x Warriors HF - 8 bases each 2 x light chariots - 4 bases each 2 Cavalry Protected- 4 bases each Javelinmen - 6 bases Slingers - 8 bases 3 Gaesati HF - 8 bases each Families 8 bases That keeps me at 13 uni...

Re: 15mm Naked Gallic army

First of all, thanks for the comments! I did sneak in paired "pantsed" command figures on some bases to help delineate where a unit ends and the next begins. Eques, good question. I often have post-production ideas about what I'd do differently if I were to paint an army a 2nd time. Sometimes, I fin...

Re: Help me with my 800 point Gallic & Galatian lists

Well, keep this in mind. Your warriors are Impact Foot/Sword. Other than being disordered, they do not lose out like Spear/Pike. Plus, they are still Superior. They will still be a serious threat to most In-period opponents. Good point and thanks for that. The last time I ran Gauls was 2 years ago ...

Help me with my 800 point Gallic & Galatian lists

Now that I've nearly finished a new Gallic army, I'd appreciate feedback on 2 lists. I'm just looking to be more than a speedbump for my local in-period opponents. Galatians: Troop Commanders x 4 Light Chariots x 4 bases Cavalry protected x 6 Cavalry protected x 4 Javelinmen x 6 Paionian LF x 6 6 Wa...

15mm Naked Gallic army

This being my 3rd time painting Gauls, I decided to do them Galatian style , sans pants or shirts. I've got command stands and a camp up next. More pics of this Gallic army plus the prior 2 are here on my blog: http://twincitiesfieldofglory.blogspot.com/search/label/Gallic%20Army 48 bases of Heavy f...

I love them, and great blog, BTW. Your posts have convinced me to paint up my 3rd Gallic army in 15mm. Hopefully, it'll be the last time!

Re: Ambushing: Anyone do it?

I'm always on the lookout to use ambushes. Ambushes are so frequently fake in our group that the one time I was able to hold back and spring one, the results were wonderful. Here's the "before" picture. The "after" is in my AAR, Onward Carthaginian Soldier. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BzafUhX8P1I/TnYa...

Re: Corvinus' Black Army

Hi domblas, thanks for the kind words! The Khurasan figures I used depict them had a 2 handed lance, so no shields. My post also includes an artist's representation of the Rhoxolani here: http://twincitiesfieldofglory.blogspot.com/2012/05/rhoxolani.html One last tip, go to http://theminiaturespage.c...

Scruff, that is brilliant! You have to do it, and if you could fit an elephant on there, it would off-the-charts cool! Make sure to post it if you do it. :D

Re: Corvinus' Black Army

Thanks fellows! I really appreciate the feedback. And Raven, it's a cointoss which way to go on shields. One way gives you a more uniform appearance. The other way lies madness! By the time I got to my 70th shield, I was done with Hungarian heraldry for the year. If you need resources for Hungarian ...

Corvinus' Black Army

Here's my Later Hungarian army version 2 for FoG v2. I'm desperate to get them on the tabletop. All the Superior Szekler horsemen should be pretty effective, I think. Re: A Field of Glory gallery

Godzeusgr, you make your 15mm look like 28mm. I love them all but your pikemen are some of the best I've ever seen. I love what you did with coloring the linothorax. Now go mix it up with the Persians!

Sertorius Shines! Lusitanians AAR

I've got my AAR up here: http://twincitiesfieldofglory.blogspot.com/2012/11/sertorius-shines-fog-2-aar.html A few observations. The game moves a bit faster with the main battle lines starting 12" in plus being able to move w/in 4" of skirmish in a double move. Also, v2 change allowing the Spanish to...

Re: My ancient Spanish Army

Thanks Custor! With 150 scutarii, I did repeat shield patterns. As long as we keep it between ourselves, I think I might be able to get away with it. The up side to Xyston is that you can paint the shields in batches. The downside is gluing 150 shields on the metal hands. Oh, and another 60 shields ...

Re: My ancient Spanish Army

Thanks Berthier! 8 bases of Legionaries HF make the difference in the Sertorius' Lusitanians list. In my first battle, one BG of 4 Legionaries withstood 2 charges by Heavy Chariots and the 2nd BG of 4 kept a flanking Cavalry unit at bay. Plus, I do love the story of Sertorius. Here is the man himsel...

Re: Ancient Spanish army-Heavy or Medium?

After 2 games, I've concluded that Sertorius Lusitanians is the only way to go with ancient Spanish. The results were markedly better than running an Iberian list with all undrilled Medium Foot. Sertorius (IC) gave me a +2 for initiative to pull the Hilly terrain I need plus I passed all of my CMTs....
