Maybe in the future you could create a "advanced map creation" thing with a slider to set up the amount of "specific map type characteristics" to low / standar / high?

I don't want to seem disrespectful but I don't understand why "the ai can't handle this" is a justification for simplifiying the game. Some aspects of the rules could be simplified or streamlined if it makes up for an entertaining and maybe better product while remaining as satisfiying as the origin...
