Re: How to use 8.8cm FlaK 36 to best effect?

I'm just trying to get to grips with this unit myself. I'm currently partway through GC 41 and have just finished Smolensk 41. From what I have picked up so far the first point is a historical one about the early war Wehrmacht. German units were trained to co-operate in all arms operations. So, unli...

Re: GC Barbarossa to Berlin (blind)

Smolensk 41 8562 prestige The plan is to allocate 25% of my 33 deployment slots to air units and the rest to 3 battlegroups. 1st group goes N to Kpynki then Vitebsk. 2nd group heads for Orsha and 3rd for Mogilev. Second phase all available units converge on Smolensk. I considered advancing the Mogi...

Re: US Corps Grand Campaign 42-45

Hi goose. I played all 3 US Corps a while back but I will avoid spoilers. For Hills I had played previously and knew to take out the force in the NE corner of the map before it became active. I also found it easier to send a force against the westernmost objective, ignoring the central and eastern o...

Re: GC Barbarossa to Berlin (blind)

A few things about where we are starting from. All opposition has been crushed, DV's in every scenario of 39, 40 and 41 (so far). Minsk was total annihilation of the enemy - all flags captured and all Russian units destroyed. I only have around 9000 prestige but have about 70 units plus the 4 SE pos...

GC Barbarossa to Berlin

Hi, some of you may remember I was fairly active here a couple of years ago, even did a couple of AAR's. I dropped out for health reasons* and didn't touch PzC for about 18 months but got back into the game recently. I'm currently part way through GC 41 and decided I would like to do an AAR document...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

BARDIA 3308pp. Bought two Matildas and a Beaufighter. Previously I bought just one Matilda here and the other two units at Crete but knowing there is no air opposition for the next two scenarios I am taking the opportunity to blood the second Beaufighter early, likewise the second Matilda (which I e...

Re: How is US corps?

I have 2 Calliope. M7 is as good as 155mm GMC, especially when have a lot of experience. Priests are more mobile and much cheaper. I went through the US Corps 3 times (I participated in Beta tests), now I play really extreme level. I would not presume to tell you, or anyone else playing at the spec...

Re: How is US corps?

The equipment you have written here is unbelievably expensive, especially if you play on the hardest level. Currently I am playing Carentan mission and in addition to 1 Hellcat I have 3 Wolverines, except 2 Shermans with 76mm gun, I have 2 regular M4. Artillery: 1 x155mm GMC, but up to 3 M7 Priests...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

Italian Offensive went rather better. Still lost the light cruiser but finished nearly 900pp up on previously. Taranto Raid - did the minimum, sank 2 battleships and pulled back. Victory. Sidi Barrani - Changed strategy here and concentrated most units on one VH at a time to start with. After taking...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

Started again. New replay files posted. Only notable differences for the first three scenarios are that I destroyed the supply dump in Border Raids and had 1038pp at the end of Girba (compared to 1206 at Field Marshal and 718 on my first try at Eisenhower).

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

I have started again and will play up to Bardia and see how it goes. Actually I am pleasantly surprised that I managed to destroy the supply dump as well as all the trucks in Border Raids - so a good beginning. I definitely need to accept having to retry some scenarios and that it will be necessary ...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

BARDIA 1737pp Usual plan of one attack in the centre towards the middle outer VH. By turn 12 the inland forts were destroyed and the three outer VH's captured. I should have stopped there but decided to press on and try for a triumph. On turn 16 I realised I wasn't going to get the last VH and pulle...

Re: How is US corps?

Admittedly the highest difficulty I have played US Corps at is General but the only scenario in which I found the Wunderwaffe air units a real issue was Remagen where you will lose a P-47 on the first turn if you put your air force in harms way - so just hold them back for a turn.

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

SIDI BARRANI 1265pp. Bought Beaufighter, upgraded both artillery to 6" and both infantry to engineers. No OS. After replacements that left just 143pp. Normal strength Italian units aren't particularly dangerous and often don't attack or don't do much damage when they do. +5 strength is just a whole ...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

I am trying to pick out the differences between the two levels. To see the detail you really need to compare the replay files for each scenario at the two difficulties.

Re: Allied Corps - British only at FM then at Eisenhower

TARANTO RAID 904pp. After replacements and one point of overstrength for both Hurricanes 662pp. I had 2 attempts at this one. The battleships and defending CR42's are 15 str so it takes a minimum of 3 Swordfish strikes to sink a battleship and attacking a CR42 with both Hurricanes won't usually down...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at Field Marshal

ITALIAN OFFENSIVE 1118pp. Purchased Hurricane Mk 1. 577pp after replacements. This was rather harder. The light cruiser was an early loss so the Italian light cruiser constantly bombarded my units and there was basically nothing I could do about it. In the air CR42's and BA65's are normally easy kil...

Re: Allied Corps - British only at Field Marshal

BATTLE OF GIRBA

1848pp. Upgraded Vickers tank to Cruiser Mk 1, bought Cruiser Mk I and 25pdr. 982pp after replacements. No particular problem but the stronger Italian units are more aggressive than my previous playthrough. Triumph, 16/18, 718pp.

Re: Allied Corps - British only at Field Marshal

FORT CAPUZZO

705pp. Bought 2 infantry and a 25pdr. 22pp after replacements. This went quite well. Normally I would clear the map but to take the VH in the SE in time I had to bypass one infantry unit and drive the one on the VH into retreat. Triumph, 17/18, 448pp.

Re: Allied Corps - British only at Field Marshal

BORDER RAIDS 200pp. All the Italian units, including the supply dump, are +5 str. I decided to make sure of all the trucks and ignore the supply depot. The Italian armoured car is now strong enough to cause significant damage meaning I actually had to take replacements during the scenario. Triumph 1...
