Re: Edgehill and Marston Moor

I have been playing Pike & Shot around the clock. Excellent game. This is the first computer game that has ever really replicated the joy of playing with miniatures and a great set of rules. Very nice! The Tin Soldiers games were the first miniatures games made. They are similar to this game but al...

Re: Tenka Fubu ODA major battle (Modded)

Did you have a look at my AAR? I used my light cavalry very skillfully. Most probably horses could do with an extra 2 AP and reduced ZOC penalty but I'm not worried about it. Cavalry don't do well in messy melee so the best way to avoid ZOC is don't get stuck in the foot soldiers' slugfest unless it...

Great Battles Medieval fun game and tactically challenging

Just want to post this to say I had fun playing this game as both the English and French. I finished the English campaign and I'm probably near the end of the French campaign now. But they are very long campaigns with hundreds of battles. The real delight is using longbows as the English to shred e...

Re: Interesting but where is the PC version?

I bought Great Battles Medieval box version for PC in a game store.
You can buy it here on Slitherine and Matrix too.
Very good game, especially if you like longbows and knights.

Re: Tenka Fubu ODA major battle (Modded)

The company is small and has done well with this game design. If they were bigger and had more programming time, they could probably add more depth to the campaign but the battles are difficult and complex which is the meat of the game. The horses can move quite far if you use them for flanking inst...

Re: Tenka Fubu ODA major battle (Modded)

Are you going to do another AAR? You said you want to play as Takeda in a campaign versus the oppressive Oda. Now with the big update to the game, you will have to put your brain in low gear to avoid a shameful loss. I don't know if Oda is stronger than Takeda in units as you said cause Oda was very...

Re: Tenka Fubu ODA major battle (Modded)

Thank you for this report. I like the colored arrows showing your combat moves. What difficulty level did you set it to? You said much about the AI's mistakes, but in my games recently, the AI is smarter than most humans and is a tactical beast. Most probably the update made the AI much more powerfu...

Re: Basic tips and tactics?

Okay I found the screenshots. When you push F2 it saves a screenshot in Documents/my games/SJIDAI folder. Here is Oda being defeated due to a deadly flank attack by our riflemen and horses. http://rs288.pbsrc.com/albums/ll166/RodentDung/Oda%20main%20army%20defeated%20south%20flank.jpg?w=280&h=210&fi...

Re: Basic tips and tactics?

We went in again to try and finish off the last Oda hideout. My troops had no rest or refit and were at half strength with about 250 soldiers in each unit. The morale rating was 'terrified' for most of my troops and some were only 'demoralized'. I combined my tattered army with a small detachment fr...

Re: Basic tips and tactics?

After typing up my 'tips', I promptly went and got myself whooped by Oda again :( The problem was I tried to get creative in what should have been the final showdown with the deadly Oda. I had both Oda armies corralled into one province and I attacked with 13,000 troops against their 16,000. They al...

Re: Basic tips and tactics?

Ya I missed horses. And monks. Horses usually have generals attached, so it is best to keep them behind your line so units have command support and as a last-ditch defense if the line collapses. Some horses don't have a general attached so they can either be held back as mobile reserves or send them...

Re: Light Brown Terrain Set now available

Thanks for this. Your brown terrain looks very good and gives it a natural look.

I like how the vanilla pudding look matches the art of the era, but your mod will be good for variety too.

Sengoku is a good strategy game all war gamers should have

I just bought Sengoku and the expansions as a Christmas present to myself. It was as good as I expected. I like how the game has traditional Japanese artwork as its graphics and the music matches, especially the song that sounds like a dull saw trying to cut through wood which is my favorite. This g...

Re: Basic tips and tactics?

Here are my cardinal rules of Sengoku Jidai warfare: You need to practice a lot and be very careful about deployment, division integrity, use the terrain wisely, keep your ranged units out of melee, and above all, always try to break through and create a domino rout effect amongst the badguys. I was...
