Anything that can be done to remove argument and confusion from competition games should be done. Anything that can be done to increase subterfuge, fowl play, backstabbing and betrayal in campaigns should also be done, but in a campaign supplement.

This does open things up to a bit of 'gamesmanship'. Two identical looking units could be very different morale and skill wise, veterans/recruits. The owning player may then change his desription of them depending on what sitaution they were in when combat is joined. A cynical view, but with some pl...

Mounted Infantry

Are these going to be assumed to have dismounted before the battle or will there be rules in place?

If they are heavy weapon armed they will not be shock troops
So does this mean that troops with Heavy Weapons cannot be shock troops? What about Early Varangian Guard, Huscarls, Russ Druzhina, Dacian Falxmen?
Though this does lead away from my original Q.

Why would Beserks be only Medium Foot
Unarmoured loose formation foot.
stick around & have a reputation to maintain.
They were pretty much only reputation or actually were lunatic
only Elite Beserk is the one on the narow footbridge
I think that was a Huscarl

Warband is a DBM troop type. Berserks, Wb in DBM, would be something like Unprotected Medium Foot, possibly Heavy Weapons, big choppers. Would they be elite, so they can re-roll 1's and 2's, or just re-roll 1's and 2's at first contact for shock effect?

Fanatics

How are the rules going to deal with fanatical troop types? From what I have read it seems that you should be able to guide them in the right direction, but then shock/impact troops need to take a CMT so as not to charge if necessary. However, this will be easier, I think, for better troops. What if...

enjoyed that level of command historically. But is it a level of command or inspiration in the game, or both? Do the nearby troops get to pass morale tests more easily or complicated manouvres become easier, or both? But different types of generals are needed. A general could be tactically sound at...

Aaaaargh! Charge declarations  Please don't say this is something like earlier WRG stuff. Write all charges down, declare in the correct order, take a test, make the rules more complex, etc

Caesar often describes himself as joining with particular legions in order to bolster their courage, and Alexander is usually described in the historical sources as fighting at the head of the Companion cavalry. If we take those sources as accurate, then it would seem perfectly reasonable to restri...

Mixed unit Q's

In DBM and many other previous rules units/battle groups could contain: mixed equipment in units, e.g. front rank heavier armour; mixed weapons in units, front rank long spears, rear javelins; mixed morale in units, the elite a the front the rubbish at the back. How or even does AoW factor this.

Early Swiss DBE's are not that silly in AoW
Does that mean nobody is going to laugh at me for using them now  , or my 6 figure wedges on 40mmx40mm bases will be ok providing I have a few single bases

But will existing double based troops cause a problem? For ease of movement a lot of my pikes are double based already. Will I need to rebase them or will a number of single bases within the battle group be OK along with the double bases? I am resigned though to rebasing my early Swiss.

TIA

I like the 'pays your money and takes your chance thing with allies. 10% cheaper and 10% chance of changing sides at deployment would work for me. Doesn't matter how it works tho, just cost to risk should work out.

An IC may inspire his troops into suicidal attacks or counterproductive manouvres. One could cite Caractacus as an example: he repeatedy inspired tribes of Ancient British to give battle to the Romans and lost every time. <snip about IC>This does not imply any tactical skill or success in battle As...

No, I've given up on changing the interpretation of the lists, I don't even know how far Slitherine have got. What would be useful though is an informed list of Inspirational Commanders for Army List footnotes, if in time, and to educate me. Although not giving some armies the option of an IC if les...
