Re: Oxford Round of the Southern League 2017

But who'd want to borrow your dice? We've nearly all seen how bad they can be!

Re: Commanded Shot - proposal

Or does the CS get rid of the reroll drop and I don't get an extra dice?
That would be my view. You only get the extra dice if the shot don't otherwise contribute at all.

Re: Commanded Shot - proposal

My view is that you don't get the extra dice if the shot contributes to a melee, so it would only negate the better armour of the cuirassiers.

Re: Play Test

Thinking about this it looks like there are a few things that need to be clarified and nailed down. For me we can just use the same principles as already exist and we shouldn't be getting into disputes about the position of the marker, it just indicates that the BG has commanded shot attached, so: F...

Re: Play Test

If we can do this with CS should we not be able to do the same with the regimental gun markers to help with arc of fire issues The Regimental gun marker represents a number of small artillery pieces spread across the front of the BG. The shooting range and arc for it's one dice is measured from the...

Re: BG Autobreak - proposal

I'd need to check, but I think most LF and LH that can be superior also have an average option, so it would be the player's decision whether the extra cost was justified.

The Japanese Dragoons aren't affected as you can only have 2 or 3 of them.

Re: Play Test

Thanks Ben. Do you think that the extra melee dice is justified or is it a step too far?

Re: Play Test

Thank you for a good write up Ben. A couple of questions:

Commanded Shot - were you allowing an additional dice in melee if the horse to which they were attached were otherwise even?

Dragoons - how were they used and did the changes have any effect?

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

Yes, just to clarify:

I was referring to the later Louis XIV army where all of the horse are unarmoured.

For the TYW example I was referring to the comparison between Cuirassiers and the DH that historically replaced them, for example in the Later TYW German list.

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

The problem that we see is that it's not just the unhistorical matchups. Some examples: Louis XIV cavalry, widely reported as the best among their contempories, currently don't perform anywhere near that due to being unarmoured. 30YW Cuirassiers totally outperform the troops that replaced them, who ...

Re: Play Test

Thank you for a good comprehensive report. I may be getting confused, but I believe that the current proposal is that we just use rerolls for better armour, in which case you played it right and that is one less bit of complexity. I would argue that the Commanded Shot position is no more complex tha...

Re: Bows

This appears to be the area that's currently generating the most controversy. From my perspective, there are 3 areas to consider: 1) The interaction between Bow armed foot and Firearm foot. The extra effective range of the Bow provides a significant advantage against Muskets, and can shoot without r...

Re: Godendag 2017 28th-29th January Cardiff

Yes, overall an excellent weekend. The new venue is very good and much better placed for accommodation and choices of evening entertainment. The tournament itself was very good and as you can see very tight at the top.

Re: Commanded Shot - proposal

We've added a revised points suggestion. It originally appeared in the Play Test thread but really should be here: Horse/DH Poor 4/6 Average 6/9 Superior 9/12 Elite 12/16 Ben suggested reducing Poor DH to 5 and Average to 8 so the premium for DH is nearer 1/3 extra for all. That doesn't seem unreaso...
