Re: Burma Road so far...

Andy,

Please do not quote me out of context. While I did enjoy Burma Road, the ending, rather like the bad ending of a book or movie, rather spoilt the experience for me. It makes me extremely wary of purchasing another DLCwith the concern of how That one is going to end.

Re: Burma Road so far...

Bru makes an excellent point: "+1 and a very good post. It sums up how I feel as well. No fantasy or science fiction but a bit of alternative fiction within the bounds of reasonableness. Wherever those limits are, we must trust the developers to know and respect them. I'm in the process of developin...

Re: Burma Road so far...

Heh, Andy and I at least agree on something : "The massive Japanese superiority in technology, numbers, supplies, resources and so on however felt inaccurate. In a fictional what if mission, this is fine. But this actually happened and all the other missions were grounded in historical reality. But ...

Burman Road - Ledo Road Victory Condition Error

In the Burma Road, Ledo Road Scenario the Victory Conditions are, Primary: 1 Construction Worker Must Survive and Secondary: ALL Construction Workers must survive. Twice in that Scenario, after suffering the loss of 1 construction worker the scenario ended in "Defeat". The secondary victory conditio...

Re: Burma Road so far...

It Happened again. Grrrrrrr. Was rolling along on "Lodo Road" when I had another one of those #$#&($&#$(& construction units spawn at an inopportune time for the Japanese to counterattack and destroy. Other 2 construction units were fine. I guess we also have a problem with numerical definition as w...

Re: Burma Road so far...

You can attack the workers in Bombay to make them retreat. Just make sure the have a clear retreat path to follow. Just don't eliminate them.

Re: Burma Road so far...

I was playing "Ledo Road" and suddenly the scenario ended on Turn 11 in defeat???????????????????? I was doing fine, a Japanese sneak attack killed off one of the construction units but that is only a secondary objective, I still had the other one at full strength. Why did it end it defeat unless th...

Re: Define the word "Halt" Please

Thanks , I will admit to missing that. However, why just not put "Blunt the Scout Force" in the primary mission statement? "Halt" and "Blunt" are not synonyms. It is possible to do one OR both. The other mission, and the once that set me on edge for this one was "Hold the mouth of KawKereik Pass". Y...

Define the word "Halt" Please

Over a few decades I have been under the mistaken impression that the work "Halt" was a synonym for the word "Stop". Alas I seem to been mistaken. In the OOB world "Halt" does not mean "Stop" it appears to mean "destroy" or "obliterate". It seems that OOB, not merely content to misconstrue the histo...

Re: Burma Road so far...

I finished Kawkareik Pass and I did mine the city but at Medium difficulty, I found that to be unnecessary as the AI never came close to taking it. I actually finished with 3 Indian units still defending the City. The key to the mission is the secondary object to hold that pass. Throw everything you...

Re: Burma Road so far...

Actually Andy, the Japanese used the Banzai charge at the beginning of the war right up to the Battle of Peleliu in Oct. 1944. I believe the last Banzai was on Saipan. It worked against earlier war Allied and Colonial troops but hit a brick wall at Guadalcanal when they came up against some fairly t...

Re: Burma Road so far...

Played through the first 2 scenarios. As others have said the first mission was challenging but plays out OK. (The Indian troops are a bit like keystone cops however...) Force Z however is right out of Fantasy Island. I mean seriously? It is a total fantasy scenario that does not even play out well....

Re: Air Operations

Hi Ace, While I agree with the points you have made, I may be able to save you some frustration here as I have been down the same path. The first thing you have to accept in OOB is, that despite the name that implies a level of precision, it is a GAME, rather loosely based upon WW2. Most design deci...

Re: Sea Lion feedback

Hey Erik, Been playing through Sea Lion and finding some scenarios work ok, others not so much. Playing up through the London Scenarios was ok with the exception of the "Milton" scenario where it would not recognize that I had captured Milton Keynes. I had the town but the victory condition would no...

Re: Sea Lion feedback

Hi Erik, Been moving forward with SeaLion and have hit a few issues, mostly with "Crossing the Thames" scenario. in "Crossing the Thames", how do you do it? The bridge does not get built so how do you supply units after they cross to the north shore? Without this or supply ships, there is not way to...

Re: Sea Lion feedback

Heh, Remember the Canterbury Tales were intended as a critique ;-) The scenario has good bones, just needs the supply and a few more turns to make it work (and upping the AB supply to 12). Going to give it another go. Ok, with adequate supply (and some luck) it is possible to complete all objectives...

Re: Sea Lion feedback

Hi Erik, I got Canterbury working but almost wish I hadn't as the scenario is pretty badly broken and unbalanced as it is. Getting the Radio tower to work took a number of replays, even when I knew what I needed to accomplish. Only about 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 times did I get the Radio Comms restored mess...

Re: Heavy Steel preview

Thanks Andy, what I am complaining about in OOB is not really a lack of Historical Accuracy but Historical Context. Units and scenarios do not necessarily have to follow history but should perform similarly in their historical context. Your example is a case in point. Supply of the Demyansk Pocket w...

Re: Sea Lion feedback

Wehrmacht, Thanks so much for your explanation and your suggested fix was spot on! I opened the 3Canerbury scenario in the editor, added the KM as a faction (even with 0 CM points) and saved it and it worked!!! No need to apologize about your English, you were certainly able to convey what you desir...

Re: Order of Battle returns to Asia with Burma Road!

Keep in mind that the Air supply success of the Battle of Imphal was mostly done by TRANSPORT planes flying into operating airstrips, not by Strat Bombers dropping supplies. Huge Difference. A battle to keep the airfields clear an not interdicted would be interesting though.
