If anyone wants to come & hasn't managed to find a team at the moment then please get in touch - either on here or by e-mail (mlu120@aol.com). Hi Edward, You can get to Derby from Birmingham by train very easily - the station that serves the airport is "Birminham International" - you will need to get a short transfer to "Birmingham New Street" and then there are regular trains direct to Derby from here. Total journey time is probably just ...

Clearly "Combined arms" is the most popular, but what is it that everyone likes so much? Is it the "best of both worlds" idea or is there something else? I interpret "like" as having an affinity to, rather than expecting to do well! IMO FOG is a ruleset that values mobility, so I tend to find that ...

Catalan company currently 7th - suggests that according to statistics it's a very good army!

I think BG2 can evade. I think that the FAQ is intended to refer to the BG whose charge is cancelled (BG1). Otherwise the intercept is treated as normal charge and should elicit a normal range of responses. There is a good argument for not letting BG1 evade - that being that the troops have readied ...

Announcement - Derby Teams 2011 FOG

Hi all, I have just sent the final details for the Derby teams competition to the organisers for posting on the website. Brief details: 3 Pools as before, teams enter 1 in each pool Pool #1 Alexandrian & successors 850pts. Specified range of lists from ROR and IF 355 to 30 BC Pool #2 Early Byzantine...

I've posted this before, but IMHO it makes no sense for the location of the fixture (home or away) to be based on the number of mounted troops of the quality of generals you have. At least DBM tried to quanitify how "aggressive" an army was and therefore how likely it was to invade somewhere else, b...

Therefore neither BG size has an overall advantage, 4s lose fewer bases, 8s lose less cohesion. I don't mean to be pendantic, but if 8-base Bow unit shoots at an 8-base then there is a 23.5% chance of doing 4 hits, which is a CT on -1. If the same unit shoots at 2x4 base units then there is a 25% c...

This is unnecessary complexity. 1 per 2 hits on CT's and options for three rank formations deal with the BG size problem quite well. Sorry, don't get that. If you have 2 x 4-base BGs side by side this should be the same as (or similar to) one 8-base BG but it isn't! The 8-base BG has a much greater...

Bit late on this one, but for me the big problem with skirmishers is the double move - they evade but then can come back again in their own turn, making them far too mobile. It is practically impossible to catch LF unless you are LH and get luckly, and entirely impossible to catch LH, but not only t...

I agree, but I don't think the problem is with the shooters - it's with the receiving BGs. Big BGs are disadvantaged in FOG because the "+2 modifier" on death rolls applies equally to all unit sizes. If you ran the same scenario with only a "+1" modifier on the small 4-base BGs then things even up s...

Personally I don't see why the decision on a "home or away" fixture has anything to do with who has what generals, or PBI for that matter. Keep it simple - throw a dice, highest score is at home. No mods

I've noted before that I don't see the brittleness of elephants as a major problem - they seem to have been very unpredictable, but I think that they are not good enough offensively - if they are more likely to break frontal opponents quickly then the brittleness is counter-weighted somewhat. The 3 ...
