The "penalty for turning" idea is reminiscent of good old 6th edition, where you deducted 1/4 move if you were regular and 1/2 move if you were irregular, but wheeling as a small unit got you into much the same place without a deduction. Not sure I liked the mechanic then either! For me the issue is...

If you do wish to see Dark Age foot fielded you might also consider changing the table size? I'm sure the period would work better on a 5' x 3' table - and ban the shooty cav armies too. But I agree with the other comments you've received - themed periods are so much better. I'm not sure that I cou...

Just noticed we are also missing more detailed info on how the themes in Derby last year were structured: Derby - Old Glory World Team Championships 09 - Classical Derby - Old Glory World Team Championships 09 - European Medieval Derby - Old Glory World Team Championships 09 - Middle East & The Cru...

Not many wolves noticed coming in from the sea ... mainly cavalry fights. FoG is mainly a horse boys game, if people actually want infantry based (or at least more balance between infantry and mounted) comps then these need to be set up with a list of allowable armies not list books that may be use...

I think that like most things in FOG it maybe needs a little tweek rather than root-and-branch reform. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I sort of like the brittleness as it feels quite historical, but I'm not sure that the balance is right in the elephants vs cavalry fight in particu...

Dave,

There is a French guy that wanted to play but I had to turn him down. It might be too late to get hold of him but I can give it a go. Problem is he only has a Pool 1 army.

Think I might sit on the draw - keep everyone guessing until Saturday. That should give me time to think of a reason why I need to change who I got (which has 0-25 all over it) I'll keep teams from the same club apart as far as possible - although I can't promise to where there is the odd pers...

Hi guys I was playing Roger Greenwood today and he mentioned in previous years games were played team against team rather than as individual competitions. I've just looked at the rules and get the impression that in each round it is team versus team, is this correct? Also if this is the case will t...

The changes that are being proposed (like undrilled impact foot) almost seem to say: only apply to Gauls and Germans, which would be resolved better with a special rule (which in FoG do not exist and create this trouble when writing amendments). But what about Spanish undrilled impact foot that did...

I think the discussion is going in the wrong direction now. Reducing Roman (really mid to late Rupublican / Early Imperial) effectiveness is only going to remove those armies from tournament play and NOT see an increase in barabarian armies. Is that really a better outcome? Do we want to go back to...

I think I come back to finding a way to give undrilled impact foot another (tie breaker) POA at impact. I still think there's mileage in the idea of awarding this for a 3rd rank at impact. What about an additional POA for undrilled impact foot in 3 ranks if no other net POA at impact and also maybe ...

My other thought would be maybe to give impact foot an additional POA at impact for a 3rd rank? Would give some advantage to large, deep warband units? ] What historical tactic or weapon system is this 3rd rank reflecting? Warbands fighting with short spears and swords are not going to get any adva...

As for swarms, I still think fighting battles with >800 pts is the best way to combat them. I agree. The more games I play the more I come to realise that 900pts would be a much better "norm" than 800pts for 15mm battles. I'd be interested in views of 1,000pts battles - don't think I've even done o...
