In all three of the Pyrrhus scenarios, the enemy overweights on the right flank, leaving his weaker troops on the left. In all three cases, one can push hard against the left flank, and thereby force the Greek mainline troops and the jumbos off of their preferred straight ahead steamroll. The great ...

Followed immediately by Cisalpine Gaul... I tried rushing the highlands as you suggested, but found that if I took my time and instead lured out the far most left tribe of Celts, I could decimate that tribe and the others would not respond. Tribal loyalty on full display. I wonder if that is true in...

MOJ, I just re-ran the Vadimo Lake campaign. As you indicated, a perfect opportunity to use your tactic. With my aux on the right hand side of the screen vs 2 opposing heavy cav, by setting them to charge, then once they begin to move to order them to a point behind the heavy cav kept them from stop...

Vadimo Lake can be a tough fight even with a a solid contingent of good troops. I just ran through it again on Very Hard with the following: 3 aux, 2 archers, 2 legionaires, 1 aux cav. Pretty high level troops, my best aux at level 13 and legionaires at 12 and 8. In 3 plays, I won 2 out of 3 times b...

My hope is that the next game will have a non-linear campaign, or at least a couple of decision-branches to make each run through the game different from the last. A win-or-lose decision won't help, since you wouldn't want to intentionally lose a battle just to see the other branch of the campaign,...

Of course, the other option that I am tackling right now is a replay of LA. I've picked up a lot of ideas from reading and posting in the forum and I am now replaying LA and testing out some these strategies. One of the most impressive things to me about this game is its replay value. And I have to ...

moj I see my earlier misreading of your message. I thought you were talking about setting waypoints on the deployment screen, not issuing orders once the battle begins. This is a great addition to my tactics! Works exactly as advertised. Thanks. But in practice, I found that it didn't work for me an...

I've just started writing down the names as I go through this time. Also, I am saving after every scenario and using the scenario name as the file name. In that way you can develop a list as you go along.

MOJ, I tried your tactics in the Latin Revolt scenario and most of it worked as described. The Legate did an admirable job of tying up the left light cav until all the other units had been eliminated, and as you indicated, the right cav did not make contact until my boys had made it into the cover o...

This forum is so valuable. I've been playing LA off and on for much of two years, and have picked up a trick or two, but MOJ, you have given me a couple great new ideas to try out. I didn't realize that setting waypoints behind the enemy line would prevent them from throwing their javelins. I figure...

I am trying to hold out for one more battle to earn the last few dinarii needed to add a Auxilia Cav unit to my small force, so I went into the Latin Dispute with only a level 4 and level 5 auxilia units. Needless to say, on the first (that is first four) tries on hardest, I got roundly waxed by the...

Re: Poor Coriolanus

My approach to this scenario is a bit more straight-forward. I have my two light cav units charge the skirmishers in the front, while my two Auxilia are placed alongside each other in the middle. The Legate accompanies one of the mounted units. I give specific orders to each of the Auxilia to attac...

Actually, I'm having some problems getting back to the original games. I have NOT yet replaced the Britannicus files with original LA files. I was hoping to be able to go back to CoM and finish that off. But when I try to load those scenarios (5th ascension to the sun) it tries put me at one of the ...

Gwinn, the ghosts and demons in Cult of Mithras didn't really engage me either, but there are some very serious tactical challenges there that push you to play better than in LA or Britannicus. I've found it by far the most difficult of the three LA campaigns. Actually I still haven't finished. CoM ...

Now that I have finished Britannicus I have a few questions. Were the files that Britannicus replaced solely Celtic files. Really my question is do I have to restore the files to their original order to replay the Roman campaign?

Iain, Do I understand correctly, this is the original Celtic campaign from LA made available to Great Battles users? So not new content if you already own LA.

Yet again, Possum opens up the inner workings of the game to the multitudes. You folks in the modding community have really dug into the guts of this thing. Thanks this is very helpful.

Finished

Possum, I finished the Britannicus campaign last weekend. So far it is my favorite campaign I've played on LA. I recommend it to all. So the next Carthage installment will be done next week, right! Seriously, as you can guess, the story element really worked for me. Too bad there isn't the ability t...

Specials

I've seldom gotten access to the specials you mention. Ajax's Banner became available once or twice, and in CoM I've seen others, but I've never seen Teutonic horses or Sarmatian armor. I think I've been following the Possum method pretty carefully (though with the addition of endurance I mentioned ...
