Re: Overstrength.

Artillery, Anti-Air and Strat bombers for me. AA is cheap, but the benefits for overstrength is pretty sweet. I prefer them on units that are less likely to get hit. I go up to 12. Rudel is also 15 for me, otherwise the same. AAA when at 12-14 can wreck an aircraft. Nothing like in 44 or afterwards...

Re: 21 cm artillery

Russian SPAA can be difficult to deal with at times (either ammo deplete them with strat bomber or maybe consider Rudel plus one more bomber)... fully developed 15 star strat bombers are not that vulnerable actually... I am not a big fan of 21cm arty... and I don't like the Brummbär (as it only has...

Re: 21 cm artillery

I can imagine they'll need babysitting by then. 15/17 is where I stop arty wise. But I am only up to 1941 at the moment. I can imagine with the heavier Russian Tanks and with a lack of air superiority, the 21 might be more useful. What about the defensive artillery like the Brumbarr etc? Babysittin...

I can see the need for heavy tank suppression, that is what I use Strats for though. 21cm arty just didn't make the cut for me.
Strats are nice, but in 44, I started having trouble using my airforce over enemy lines. AAA beat them up til I could take them out

21 cm artillery

I know many here don't like the 21cm due to low Rof and low ammo count. I messed up my first play through and kept upgrading my artillery every chance I had. Which was fine I guess. But at Stalingrad having 5 ammo meant that I only had three shit's per piece. I didn't want to leave my infantry with ...

Oh I do disband artillery with unsuitable heros. Like sight or defense. Just don't need that. I disband them and hope for movement and or range

Re: At what time should you be content with your (infantry) unit(s) heroes?

I don't farm, but I tend to have more infantry than I'll ever really need. They're all leveler up XP wise. Some have great heros, and I have one that has a triple hero. I use those more than the duds with D+1 or something. I also like movement bonuses. Males it easier to hide them on rough terrain. ...

Re: New Panzer Corps is the old Panzer Corps?

I agree. I'd like, especially late 42 on to be chargeable. I don't want to end up at Berlin no matter how well I do. Keep the campaign names like citadel and D day, but change where when and how they're fought. Panzer general had Moscow 43 iirc. I'd like the option if choosing Leiningrad, Moscow or ...

Re: DLC '44 #12: Return to Kishinev

Wow that was hard. The Romanians are all over the west and the Soviets are coming south fast in the west. All I coukd do in the west was withdraw towaesd the river and size the Romanian airfield and large city there. I sent a taskforce south and couldn't take all the Romanian positions in time.as th...

Re: Please dont ignore Rzhev salient

That'd be nice. Would also be interesting to have to coordinate with other allied units. Like at kursk your corps is there and there are other axis army units controlled by the AI. If you can't attack well and don't go anywhere, they do as well as the Germans did historically. But if you break throu...

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

In Eastern GC, I found that strong focus on fighters does the trick, so leave your strats in the hangar, convert tacticals into fighter-bombers, buy up new fighters: as others have already mentioned, you should have a decent enough edge over Soviet planes for the lack of experience not to be crippl...

Re: Please dont ignore Rzhev salient

I personally experimented with this in the Grand Campaign of the original game, but honestly the game was never designed for that in mind. That's why the campaign tree looks like such a mess near the bottom. This is all of the 'your actions matter and lead to impacting the next scenario' http://i.i...

Re: Please dont ignore Rzhev salient

I agree. I'd also like to see a bit of alternative history involved. I don't mean massive changes, but your success or failure should impact the next scenario is some way.

That stinks. Sorry.
I'd hit Stalingrad docks or Kharkov. Both are fun and challenging battles.

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

Well if you're playing like that don't bother deploying the bombers off the start. That would just increase your prestige cap hit for units that aren't even fighting. Can you do that? Can you not deploy units and then deploy them during the game? I find that it's better to knock out their airforce ...

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

Rudel is excellent as an 87G, which has good enough armor that he often doesn't need to be escorted. He can really mess up even the best Soviet tanks in that form. Now if you give him an Fw 190G his air attack is equal to a Me 262 (with a defense of 27, far higher than any fighter) while still reta...

Well, I use the 88s as AT for French tanks, it helps to build up experience for later...
Should have done that. I never did. Just had the one. In 44 it's easy to have regrets on what you did earlier.

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

The other thing might be to swap all tac bombers to fighter bombers (but maybe still with fighter escorts, if needed)... Rudel in a fighter bomber is rarely attacked I tried that in the west. Fight bombers aren't that great over there. Is Rudel worth being a fighter bomber? I don't mind escorting h...

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

[ Russian fighters are harmless to experienced German fighters but good enough to beat inexperienced ones. To do well you need to keep your experienced fighters alive. If you must buy new ones, send them against weak bombers only to build experience (not Shturmoviks if possible, they have high armo...

I think best is to develop one (to three) 88s right from the start in Poland... ;)
I only did one. But I was incredibly lucky and got an extra range point for that unit.
Low XP AAA does very little damage. Especially the mobile AAA. They only take a few points off of fighters or bombers
