Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

I follow the kind of approach described by Turtler - maybe two SPAA to escort spearheads, and one or two towed 88s or 128s to weaken enemy aircraft and to defend the main body. I can usually get away with 2 or 3 fighters but you do have to be careful to keep them away from the enemy AA. OK, interes...

Re: Using airpower in 44 and beyond

AA is your friend. Soviet Corps can really get you in the mindset for Post-Midwar Air Doctrine, since the Reds start out with weak planes vis a vis the Germans, so a key trick is not giving up the air but finding ways to contest it from the ground. Soften up enemy planes from Anti-Aircraft units, t...

Using airpower in 44 and beyond

Before 44, I used 4-5 fighters and a mix of strategic and tac bombers. I usually knocked out their airforce and then attacked their ground units. All while avoided AAA. Now with the Sparkling great strength, I find it's hard or costly to venture out beyond my own lines. Almost every time I do I get ...

Re: Grand Campaign question

Agree with most of what is said. Thing is going west 42 is very different from what you've done up til now. Not just different or more specialized units are needed, but a different approach as well. You can't just attaxk like you've done in every scenario up til now. Which makes it interesting and s...

Re: Heroes?

I'm still using normal. Hate it when in the open my tiger slips on a banana peel and takes damage from conscripts. Makes me so mad. That or when my AAA deals zero damage to enemy aircraft.

Re: Heroes?

Ok, yes some of those powers are kinda crazy. An AT gun with attack first hero would crush tanks, even on the attack.
Wouldn't mind the gambler. I seem to on the wrong end of the predictions a lot.

Re: Heroes?

I was young when I played PG II, so the heroes were complicated to me. I like them being random and having variable stats and not worrying about putting them in different units.

Seems others have been able to pull it off. Will be hard fought, but it's possible. Guess you have to make sure the British don't break out via Egypt.
Will hour attack from Russia be able to distract the British in Egypt?

Doing pretty well. You going to best the Allies to French north Africa? I was going to take positions on the line of the Kasserine Pass. And make it faster than the Americans will do. But then I did not know about the features of the American troops) Oh noes! I'm going to be looking forward to this.

Re: BATTLEFIELD EUROPE v1.94:MP - Strategy Guide [AXIS] [Turn 30] - 1942

Wow that's a long time to wait. I understand the reasoning. Wonder if waiting say ten turns and then getting like 5 points per turn and it slowly gores each turn til it reaches 50? I'd like that more, just because that's a long time in a 100 turn game

Re: Favourite units in each unit class

When I said situational, I really meant it. It's hard to have too many situational units in a corps because of the drag on versatility and efficiency. I only have one Pak 43 in my corps in my current playthrough and even that took a lot of baby sitting and careful deployment from GC39-GC43. Yeah ju...

Very nice. Has the prestige you get a turn changed since you've made some serious conquests?

Re: Struggling on GC '43 East

Don't sweat it. There are some battles in 44 and even 43 where losing a unit is super easy. I've had PZIVs blasted by Soviet heavy tanks, and that made me furious. Definitely don't worry about redoing a battle. Some get pretty rough

I like the 21cm artillery. It's the only artillery that can suppress the Soviet heavy tanks in 44-45

Re: Struggling on GC '43 East

I started this last June or so. Before as a kid I played PG. I did a colonel play through and basically ran out if prestige by the end of 44. I'm on my second play through and am at Stalingrad. I still take some stupid risks and all, but I'm much more careful and don't need to use replacements as mu...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

The Stalingrad battles are hard. They're dug in, and smgs are mean and numerous. The first battle, I didn't have the forces to really assault the south and that part lagged behind the rest. Which was ok as there weren't any strategic positions to take there. Overall I felt that I was stretched thin ...

Re: Pz3's versus Pz4's thoughts

I had a mix of both in my first play through. Found the 3s just weren't worth much in 43. While the 4s weren't great but still usable in 43. But both by 44 can't be in the main battle line. Any Soviet heavy tank, even the 34s, given 2-3 attacks can destroy a pz 4. This play though I'm going with mos...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

On col because I'm not a sadist. Anyhow replaying as I ran out of money in 44 east. I finished the 40 campaign and had 16k. My first play though I only had 2k~ amazing how being a little disciplined goes. Used to elite reinforce all the time in battle. Now I only do it when absolutely necessary. I u...
