Re: Chariotfest

And here's the final result ... Londo (Indians) 34/49 def Ian (Kyrenean Greeks) 47/43 I maximised the mobility of the Indian army, taking as many cavalry as I could - Indian cavalry is wretched, but at least cheap and mobile. The field commander was chariot-mounted, and held all the chariots in clos...

Re: Chariotfest

We have one result ... Londo (Kyrenean Greeks) 13/48 def Ian (Indians) 52/49 On a very open map, the Greek steamroller flattened the Indians, with Greek chariots and lancers being particularly deadly. The reverse game is underway, on an equally open map, and so far is proceeding in exactly the same ...

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY 7: 'Mongols and Mamluks'

Many apologies - personal circumstances have rendered me hors de combat in the past fortnight. I believe Edmund has also been away from the battlefield for a while; his challenge for me has just been posted.

My challenge up for fogman, pw loh7

I promise to play from now with speed and diligence! :)

Re: Chariotfest

I've started my games with Jon. As Early Carthaginians, I took, in the spirit of maximum chariotising, Libyan allies, and a total of 12 wheeled contraptions (6 heavies, 6 lights).

Beat that, cucks! :P

Londo (India) 25/45 - Enakan (Kyrene) 49/43

The biggest lesson from these games - never put bullock carts (poor war wagons) anywhere near the enemy! :)

Re: Chariotfest

"Apologies to Londo and Jonathan, but your choices have already gone." I don't see Nytram's choice of Persians on the forum, I guess he must have PMed you. So I won't be getting to play with Immortals then. Bugger! :) Well I'm not taking those damned Early Carthaginians, so Kyrene it is for me. I'll...

Re: Mediterranean circa 279BC

Londo (Athens) 37/62 def Caiko (Generic Greeks) 68/68 I suspect that Blackadder has won the tourney - you'll get what you deserve, you bugger, when General Melchett orders you over the top in approximately 2195 years from now! :P But seriously, congrats to Blackadder, and thanks to all players and p...

Re: Chariotfest

Count me in! :D My preference is for the heavies. The armies are aesthetically appealing (particularly Egyptians and Persians) and have an interesting, diverse range of units. The light chariot armies, by contrast, are all just variations on a Celtic theme. And I have my doubts about the historicity...

Re: Mediterranean circa 279BC

You guys remember the film 300, released a decade ago? How could one forget it? Despite, or perhaps because of, its utter historical silliness, I found it outrageously entertaining. Athenians got a mention at one point ... Persian Messenger: All that God-King Xerxes requires is this: a simple offeri...
