Re: Use Fog2 to show some ancient Chinese formations

Did you try them in accurate battle and see how effective them are?
I'm currently possessed on the how and why the ancient formations worked in battle.

Wedge Formation!

I saw lots of historical armies use wedge formation, but the explanation on the reason behind it was always obscure. They just said it's like a nail or a drill to break the center of enemy formation, etc. So I tried it in game. It worked! From my experience, it not something about the physics...

Re: Superior Medium infantry

Agree Jewish Zealot army being hardly unbeatable. BTW, why Zealots get lightly protected. They don't even have shields but plain cloth on them like light javelin or light horse archers. Unprotected is more correct. :D :D For some reason, someone zealous enough can keep on fighting after taking beat...

Re: General fallen upon a winning impact

I believe the chances of a commander death are independent of the combat result, which I think it should be as any time a general is in combat there's a chance he can be killed. The chance of a commander "falling" (i.e. being killed/wounded) in close combat is three times higher if the general's un...

Re: General fallen upon a winning impact

What would be the fun in that? If you use a general in an attack you get a bonus you have to balance that against the risk to his life. You could have transferred him to a different unit to avoid the risk. That's my take on it anyway. I wound like to use the general as a commander instead, ...

Re: Non-lancer cavalry tactics

So not sticking around for melee actually makes them survive better as seen with horse archers. :D I'm accurately thinking the lancers are the best defender against infantry charge. They neglect most of the impact poa from infantry and break off before melee phase. I can simply keep move them back ...

Re: Non-lancer cavalry tactics

It's just hard to encourage them to stay in melee, even I've surrounded an enemy cohort with 4 cavalry units, the flanker will still try to retreat. As the infantry is slower, while cavalry can more easily sneak around and get to the flank, even with infantry support, to get the free cohesion drop, ...

General fallen upon a winning impact

I just charged a full-strength heavy chariot upon a medium cavalry and winning with 4 vs 20+ loss. But instead, they retreated and held firm after the defeat, while my general got himself killed and disrupted his own cohort  Though realistically, this could happen on some over-exiting command...

You can do something gamey by putting a unit behind them (block their withdrawal path) to make them stay engaged in melee.
 Will definately try this.

Non-lancer cavalry tactics

I'm tried to use sword and light spear cavalry to surround the enemy flank and make chain route by flank/rear charges. But I've found they never keep contact with a steady cohort and always retreated after the clash. The only scenario, in which they didn't retreat was against a already disrupted coh...

The flank attack shown in your diagram will not work because the game will not let you charge between the other two units that are in close combat.
:D That's brilliant!

Diagonal Flank Breach Tactics?

New guy here :D I just found a pretty weird tactics to breach the enemy flank, which works in game, but quite counter intuition in realistic situations. When I has more cohorts on one flank, I could charge diagonally in the first turn, to change the facing of enemy cohorts. On the next turn, the ene...
