Re: when is a spear not a spear

You no longer get the POA for spears as theres only 1 rank of spearmen. But the LF fight with the factors as the front rank ie no POA for spears, but POA's for armour (if relevant)

Re: SHOOTING

Another option to balance mixed BG's would be to give the front rank a -POA at impact if also receiving support shooting.

Re: Scottish Open, 26-27 November 2016

Yes, I would agree we should be looking to changing to MEG next year.
We'll have to discuss that. As far as I'm aware I'm the only GDWS member to have even looked at those rules yet, although Hugh and I are going to try them out next meeting. So far too early to suggest a rules switch.

Re: Scottish Open, 26-27 November 2016

I'm not in favour of going for the V3 changes yet. As Terrys latest AAR shows the rules are still in flux. So OK for trial games, but too fluid for a tournament.

Re: FOGAM3

I agree a list issue. Unless th rules encourage a higher proportion of men-at-arms to longbowman. The proportion of archers in English armies changed over time, with a higher proportion of archers as time went on. So in the last quarter of the C14th the numbers were roughly 1:2 men-at-arms to archer...

Re: The Worlds 2016

What times are people arriving? I should be at the hotel about 19:30. Wondering if anyone else will be around for a drink.

Heard from Martin earlier today. For some reason he hadn't received my list. He has now, and approved it.

Re: FOGAM3

I'd like to propose one relatively simple change: The terrain system can produce very crowded battlefields, more so when playing on a 5' wide table (often used in comps) than with a 6'. What about allowing 2-3 additional pieces with narrower tables (5' or less) instead of 2-4? This is already the r...

Re: FOGAM3

Was Humbleton Hill a HYW battle? It was against the Scots (or the English depending which side of the border you live, free England and Wales or the EU thralls of Scotland and Ireland). HYW was against proper Europeans. Definitely HYW. There were even a few French knights at the battle. All of them...

Re: FOGAM3

On a minor point it would be nice to see something that stops people fielding 100 Years War English consisting almost entirely of archers. I've never considered this to be correct historically. And now reading Jonathan Sumpters latest volume on the 100YW he makes the point that very few battles in t...

Re: The Worlds 2016

Wow........lists due just 3 days before the tournament start? Cutting it fine, and not much chance of an R&R.
