Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

There's also been some threads asking for a Kindle version. I assume such requests were meaning in addition to a physical book. However, I recall the latter years of DBM, where version 3.0 was printed but 3.1 was softcopy amendments. We coped with that! Yes, but that was replacing a b/w softback wi...

Re: Any news of V2

Thats not at all how I read the announcement from Slitherine on this. My understanding was that FoGPC was being re-written using new, more up to date software, which would also allow it to be ported onto different platforms (ipad..) more easily - Hexwar either didn't want to, or weren't able to do ...

JD McNeil, Chairman of Slitherine, said: "We are continually encouraged to see how Wargamers embrace change to the hobby, so we listened to your feedback and the Revolution continues. The digital release of Field of Glory Ancients & Medieval v2.0 rules is testament to your opinions and needs.   Wha...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

Some questions :

When will it be released ?

How much will it cost ?

Will we be able to print a hard copy ?

Re: nike byzantine infantry

Page 91 states that if the front rank does not have shooting capability then only the 2nd rank may shoot - so pretty clear that a 3rd rank cannot shoot in the shooting phase. Page 82 only refers to LF being able to support shoot from a 3rd rank - which is slightly misleading beacuse page 98 is very...

I think you've got that wrong. The third rank of bow cannot shoot in this formation.
True. 3rd rank bows can only support shoot in impact.
No, I'm pretty sure they can't even do that, as they are MF, and only LF in the 3rd rank can support shoot.

Re: nike byzantine infantry

People normally deploy them 2 deep. Sp/Bw (Bow behind spear) Since you can have 8 you can go 4 deep, Sp/Sp/Bw/Bw if needed. The third rank of bow still get to shoot in shooting and impact phases and you get POA for spears. I think you've got that wrong. The third rank of bow cannot shoot in this fo...

Re: Any news of V2

Hmmm... I suspect that the idea of people giving up on FOG in droves is grounded more in hyperbole than fact.... I agree. I don't think you can infer from low activity on here that people are moving away from playing FOG. More likely that no-one needs to ask many questions any more. Although I do s...

Re: Tactical Advice Sought - Mounted v Infantry

I have a number of situations I'm looking for some tactical advice. ( Assume opposition have IC, rear support and always pass moral checks ) 1) Attacking exposed flank. I've a cav/knight army v Drilled armoured infantry deployed in a box with exposed flank. Hinge point is behind rough terrain. I ha...

Re: Looking for an army

You get half and half HF Heavy Weapon / Crossbow (not bow I'm afraid) in medieval Swedish and Danish, but their mounted would be Knights.

Don't you get some in the Chinese armies with half and half MF HW / bow or Crossbow ?

Re: Charging into a flank that's not a flank.

Interesting question would be - what if the Impact Foot and the LH both charged the Auxilia at the same time ?

Re: Charging into a flank that's not a flank.

Yes, you cannot charge the flank of a file that is in frontal contact already unless it is a valid flank charge. Normally you have the choice of either positioning yourself to flank charge the following turn or moving to an overlap position, but you cannot do the latter in this case.

Yes, but the gap between my opponents BGs helped him in this situation, as it meant we could not conform and therefore I couldn't feed more bases in.

Re: Unable to conform

I would have expanded to the right so that I could at least get more dice even if I was double overlapped. 6 to 10 is better odds than 4 to 8, especially if you are at ++. Average hits is 4 to 3.333 vs 2.667 to 2.667 I lost a base at impact. So expanding would have gone from 2 vs 4 at ++ to 2 vs 2 ...

Re: Unable to conform

All that is needed here is to be aware of the rules and play accordingly. If your BG's had been a base width apart when charging, rather than slightly less, there would not have been a problem. Alternatively, an angled charge to increase the gap would have worked. I would not advocate adding rules ...

Re: Unable to conform

No, it wouldn't need that. Some sort of allowance for a simultaneous conform would do it.

Which way do I conform ?

This situation came up a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but my opponent disagreed with me. I'm sure this has been discussed at length here before. http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv204/Polkovnik_Mark/FOG/May2012024.jpg Which way does BG A conform ? I think left, as it is the sho...
