Re: Conquer Leningrad in 1st turn of 41 Barbarossa in 3.1 ea

Your winter offensive would be poorer than you might think, as the restrictions on Russian rail capacity would run into 1942.

Re: Reload should be not allowed in this game

Ha ha. Good of you to own up, especially so publically. I did wonder a couple of times. I think (EDIT: I know perfectly well) that in my first two or three games I reloaded occasionally. It is so tempting sometimes isn't it? I think that I have been a reformed character for over a year now. Both you...

Re: Conquer Leningrad in 1st turn of 41 Barbarossa in 3.1 ea

Oh yes. And by the time SW hits, the Russians are still suffering from reduced rail capacity, so their winter offensive never really gets going  . Plus there is a long front from Belomorsk to Novgorod which the Russians have to worry about all of those Axis units - in full supply - charging in...

Re: Reload should be not allowed in this game

This is a topic which has been much discussed. As Stauffenberg says, the only fix would be a rewrite from scratch; essentially a new game. The sooner it happens, the better for all of our peace of minds. Spotting reloading is probably a bit more difficult than it may first appear, because of the ran...

Yes, doing a "run away" with the whole southern front might set up the Russians for a 'backhand' come spring.

Re: cheating

A standard turn one move for me when I play the Axis. From memory it works more than 80% of the time. As pk says the most likely thing to stop it is the softening up attacks being too effective  . And if you can't physically replicate it then how can it be a cheat - unless he has hacked the wh...

Re: GS v3.10 available on the Matrixgames site

Not sure if this is the right place to report it, but in my newly installed 3.10 when I load a new game against the AI using the 1943 scenario the Allies get to move first. I assume that this is an error? If not it needs adding to the change log. Or it may just be me? :( Nice amendments BTW. I espec...

Re: Status of GS v3.10

I only mentioned NAVAL units. I think that this is unrealistic. If there is an easy to code way to prevent it I think that it would be an improvement. I agree with no land units in Tirana (although this seems inconsistent with being able to place naval units) I agree with being able to place new lan...

Re: Status of GS v3.10

It may be too late to take on new suggestions (or it may already have been actioned) but it has always struck me as odd that the Italians can build naval units at Tirana. I understand why this is - Albanian territory is listed as Italian at the start of the game and Tirana is a mainland port linked ...

Re: Poll: Scapa Flow supply

It occurs to me that a third option is to make SF a Rail Depot (whilst still a fortress (or, possibly, whilst not)). This would leave units on supply level 1, representing a trickle of supplies getting through whilst allowing em and disem-barkation. I am personally against it, but I could see how ot...

Re: GS V3.10 possible change - Scapa Flow

The question is whether we want Scapa Flow have a chance to become out of supply or not. If yes then we keep the fortress. If no then we change it to a city. I thought that that was what the vote was about. We only need to discuss how to keep S F in supply if we decide we want to. I would prefer th...

Re: GS V3.10 possible change - Scapa Flow

Leave it as it is. It seems to reflect reality and more importantly I feel that it adds to playability. (Sealion doesn't need even more disincentives.)

Ah! No, a unit will *never* retreat into an enemy controlled hex. Only friendly controlled hexes are eligible to be retreated into.

Re: Can units retreat forward into a ZOC?

IF a unit retreats it will attempt to do so such that it does not end in an enemy ZoC. If it cannot do this it will attempt to avoid ending in the ZoC of the unit which attacked it. If it cannot avoid this it WILL still retreat, so long as it is physically possible. There is a clear example in the ...

I think that you were both right  : 25 July. Control of the Italian armed forces passed to King Victor Emmanuel III. 26 July. Mussolini dismissed as prime minister and imprisoned. A new government takes over in Italy and begins secret negotiations with the Allies. 3 September. A secret armistic...

Re: Malta paradrop questions

Hitting the airfield will not do anything. I landed there in the Gog v Kragdob AAR, which may be worth a look at. I would say go for it and take your chances on the drop losses. You will only have supply 1. If Malta is red you can now hit it with 2 TACs per turn, which will wear down its entrenchment.

It depends. Probably about General/Naval/General/Naval/Inf/Inf/Armour/General.

You might want to have a look at the AAR of Kragdob wiping the floor with me before you decide that I am a good model to copy.

Re: Italian Lab Strategies - Pros/Cons

Was this partially so you could place the 3rd General lab (before you sold the armour lab)? Sneaky! :-) Almost entirely. I had to buy a lab in a fourth area to be able to buy the third for General, and adding 1 to the attack value of the Italian MECH and ARM seemed the most useful of the options av...

Personally, the only Polish city I ever garrison is Warsaw, and not always that. I haven't been caught out yet. This, of course, is not a guarantee :) .
