Re: new computer and DLC

One of the slowest parts of switching to my current computer was the downloading and reinstallation. It was never difficult, but as Terminator says, good organisation pays off.

Re: Stalingrad.

I usually head for escape and Tatsinskaya after two big city scenarios, so can't comment on Ruins, though I really should make an effort next time round. Escape isn't too difficult if you can keep the Hungarians alive past the first two or three turns, though there is scope for embarrassment if you ...

Re: Future dev diaries

This may have been mentioned elsewhere, sorry if I repeat it if so... When I first discovered Command & Conquer, one of the things I liked was the soundtrack cd. Instead of a short horrible prehistoric digital tune, a whole cd with inspiring background music came along. It somehow never got bored, ...

Re: Future dev diaries

+1 also will the new game be more embedded in the historical realities? Will the Devs pay more attention to, for example, the date when the equipment/weapon was introduced to equip the front units in reality? Will there win (as always :( )the so-called "playability" for the price of historical trut...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

I think the choice for +3D on AA depends a lot on whether you are attacking of defending. On normal difficulty, mobile AA is very good for protecting spearheads, and the 3D will definitely improve survival when you get caught, shelled etc. While useful for providing defensive fire, it isn't so good ...

Re: What beats Tiger II?

have tanks move around in groups of 3-4 if possible... It's pleasantly surprising how often applying real-life-inspired tactics works in the game. Tanks work better as a team, tanks with infantry and artillery support work better still. Mobile artillery (or tac bombers if you have enough control of...

If you've already started a campaign, you can change the difficulty at the end of a scenario.

Re: Turning Auxiliary Unit to Core

In the data folder, campaign.pzdat. If you search the forum there are some previous posts on this (which is why I know this). I use Excel to open this as it keeps the formatting better, but Notepad works. There will be a list of nation codes above the scenario tree. I would provide more precise info...

Re: Turning Auxiliary Unit to Core

There was a question on this a while back, and it appears to be impossible to convert aux to core and back. I believe you need to edit the campaign file to set the nations that can be purchased. There should be some earlier discussions on this from roughly a year ago. Another option is to edit the s...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

Maginot on normal settings can be good for training up new pios, paras, artillery and strat bombers (the short distances allow a Do17 to be developed to 2* for later conversion to a 217). The key is to spot the fortresses early (especially the overstrength ones) so you can plan assaults and otherwis...

Re: Best Infantry Unit

I agree that the best infantry unit varies according to mission and date (my 43 mix and pre 43 mix can be very different). It can also very a bit with what heroes you have (a team of two pio plus move-hero gun or nebelwerfer is always useful for mopping up and for quickly clearing a path). As infant...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

On standard settings one para can take the Char B1 city if starting at 12str and with 2 or 3 * and an attack hero, although two ground units and preferably a strat bomber are much faster and less likely to go horribly wrong. Paras then move to the nearby airport while you air freight and rail troops...

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

Last time I played Dijon, I sent a lot of troops round the left hand side and managed to block every enemy hex with a unit before bringing the flaking troops bring them against the rear the central cities in time. It's one of the few scenarios where I can make paras work, but with a bit of careful p...

Re: Best Infantry Unit

I often convert gebirgsjagers to paras when I need some airborne troops as neither need trucks.
Otherwise infantry which have 2 or 3* and +1A or D heroes also make a good conversion to paras, especically if you think they might not make it back.

Re: What beats Tiger II?

Strategic bomber(s). Close terrain and infantry, or infantry in general. Tac bombers (no air defence). 4 or 5* AT unit (eg Jackson or 17 pounder with +8 or +10 attack from experience and hopefully at least +2 hero bonus). Ambush. Alternatively, don't bother attacking it and focus on wiping out every...

Re: Me.109E vs. 109F

For me, the extra fuel of the F is most important in AK, then the inititive.
The E is slightly better on defensive fire because initiative doesn't matter for this and against very low initiative bombers and biplane fighters but that's about it.

Re: Building a historically authentic core/corps

Given the 14 or so per division formation, In 39 and probably 1940 you can probably afford to play two divisions in alternate scenarios to acquire experience and heroes (if running at 100% prestige this should be affordable). You could probably create a third division mainly from captured, special a...

Re: Upgrade Questions

The Panzer 3 is probably starting to get bit iffy but the 3N is good for soft targets with SA9. Between scenarios you can swap between the 3M for fighting tanks and the 3N for anti-infantry work for free one way and for about 24 prestige the other. It's quite an expensive upgrade to a 4G but if you ...
