Re: Me.109E vs. 109F

For me, the extra fuel of the F is most important in AK, then the inititive.
The E is slightly better on defensive fire because initiative doesn't matter for this and against very low initiative bombers and biplane fighters but that's about it.

Re: Building a historically authentic core/corps

Given the 14 or so per division formation, In 39 and probably 1940 you can probably afford to play two divisions in alternate scenarios to acquire experience and heroes (if running at 100% prestige this should be affordable). You could probably create a third division mainly from captured, special a...

Re: Upgrade Questions

The Panzer 3 is probably starting to get bit iffy but the 3N is good for soft targets with SA9. Between scenarios you can swap between the 3M for fighting tanks and the 3N for anti-infantry work for free one way and for about 24 prestige the other. It's quite an expensive upgrade to a 4G but if you ...

Re: Put your unit requests here please

Good idea. I've some UK Commandos that switch to a river boat (the commandos have BEng trait, and the plan was to switch on rivers). However, I haven't finished the scenario I was going to try them out in so can't comment on effectiveness. Landing craft sounds a better option for general shoreline, ...

Re: Upgrade Questions

A few years back someone posted that if you treat Flammpanzers like mobile pioneers they work very well.

The wurfrahmen flamm panzer, and 10/4 AA make a very effective team for tidying up behind the front line. Oleh Dir or a kradschutzen make a nice extra member.

Re: 2 New Difficulty Levels for Grand Campaign

I quite often use a divisional structure (with a few corps units) and try to stick to it. Of course, there is plenty of room to disagree about divisional structure but usually something like: Panzer division = 2 tanks two artillery and two truck infantry. Infantry division = 2 infantry on foot + 2 h...

Re: Status Check for GC

I prefer Sevastopol siege rather than assault simply because it fits my play style slightly better, but the assault is more satisfying if you need a good fight. On TSPCC's comments, 3 (and 4) move infantry without transport (including pioneers and grenadiers with move heroes) is fast enough to be us...

Re: 2 short questions

+1move makes a nebelwerfer a great companion for pioneers for clearing heavily entrenched infantry. +1 range is useful for many units but for me a 3 range nebelwerfer, wurfrahmen or maultier is even better than a 2-range Stug3. On the captured tanks, the B1 makes a good blocking unit and anti-infant...

Re: Best Infantry Unit

Oleh Dir kradschutzen. Great idea until you see what happens to an 11-move unit with 40 fuel, miles ahead of the rest of the army and with only 5 ammo and lousy ground defence. I won't try it again. Oleh Dir cavalry would only be better by making it harder to get so badly isolated!

Re: Status Check for GC

I'd rather keep the T34/41 than the Matilda and Char B1. Armour isn't much less, Initiative and HA are better and SA better than Matilda. Plus you can get them into position faster either as a blocking force or a fire brigade. However, I'm sure others could make a case for selling the lot and buying...

Re: Status Check for GC

As soon as you capture any KV1s your Matildas and Char B1 become effectively obsolete. Best sell them off unless they have a good hero. The T34/40 is not a lot of use - weak gun, low ammo and low fuel. The 34/41 can be handy for the speed, fuel and initiative, especially as a group of three, but wil...

Re: Afrika Korps campaign - Manstein difficulty/Italian Challenge

The surrender prestige from Churchill's is a quirk of units with low base strength. If you can force an overstrength unit to surrender (which means it is overstrength after your attack) the prestige value is related to X/base, where base is the base strength. Normally this is difficult to arrange, b...

Re: AI improvement

A couple of things spring to mind: Units with no ammo or fuel should always resupply if not in contact with the enemy. If zero ammo and in contact, they should either resupply in place or have a chance to move away from contact by max move to allow full resupply the following turn. The chance of mov...

I've just rebuilt mine for the second time in two scenarios, so I don't like them any more.
Rondorf is asking to be transferred to a real tank unit next time.

Re: New Difficulty Level for Grand Campaign

Last time I played Arras I tried a similar approach - holding line south, main thrust in the upper half so that I could attack the left hand objectives from the north.

It worked quite well - never really got easy but it also never really got hard either.

Re: Status Check for GC

The key in Stalingrad is to use lots of infantry - bring out your spotting heroe ones - and back them with lots of artillery to porvide defensive fire. Bring enough tanks to keep the streets clear. I find wurf's very limited defensively due to 4 ammo, which is not enough when you can get attacked 5 ...

That's a definite improvement in unit/background contrast.

It's good to get some examples and progress updates. Keep up the good work.

The 70% RoF of the 210mm and 5 ammo means it isn't quite such an impovement as it looks over the 170mm. But then I haven't played 44East for a while, and the need to damage heavy soviet tanks might change my views very quickly.

I like your attitude (not sure your troops would agree!). It will be a challenge maintaining that enthusaistic aggression through and beyond 1942, but you might as well give it a go.
