I have used a Late Successor 800pt pike army against a Roman army several times now. I found the biggest weakness of a Successor is the immediate flanks of the pikes (which I always mass in the centre). Elephants are surprisingly effective in tying down the loose ends. I now field 2 BGs, one on eac...

By the time I've finished sorting out my plastics they will last forever too. :)

Points aside, I wonder if 6 Superior archers such as Cretans would be better than 8 Average?

Hmm, maybe I should paint some 6mm pikemen and put them on 15mm bases just to see if they look all right.

Choices, choices......(it's bad enough having to paint things without having to make decisions too).

Hmm wargaming seems to be full of calculating types. Pah! A general belongs on a charger at the head of his troops! :D

I was looking again at the Baccus site and after much havering (going back months) I now convinced that if one wishes to create a mass battle effect it has to be 6mm on 25mm bases. I recently put "on hold" two Napoleonic armies in 2mm on 80mm-wide bases awaiting completion of the Horse, Foot and Gun...

Interesting as I am trying to decide on figure manufacturers and I am not satisfied with 15mm, but I really like the Baccus 6mm and am sorely tempted to go ahead with that based to 15mm. I really would like the chance to compete with such an army.

You're welcome.

I use http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk.

Bear in mind that postage is a set fee so make the most of it and place a large order rather than a small one if you can.

Very good.

I haven't played the game yet and was interested to see how fluid the battle lines were. No doubt this was to do with the compostion of the armies.

We provide, as mentioned above, an Indian Elephant with tower for this purpose: http://blackhat.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_50_81&products_id=571 Mike Black Hat Miniatures http://www.blackhat.co.uk That looks rather good, it fits the bill exactly and it should paint very nicely indeed. ...

I think Chris believes that by using the Early Successor list he will create an army closer to his view of what Pyrrhos' army was - good use of the lists IMO. Spot on Nik! I feel the urge to paint lots of pikemen again. :D (Mind you, they will have to join the queue behind the 1/72 Spanish, Romans ...

Immortal Fire

Just received my copy of Immortal Fire. It looks pretty good. I like the Early Successor list in particular - my favourite period. What is more I can even make an army out of it that will satisfy an old pedantic Pyrrhus enthusiast such as myself! :D There are armies for widely differing tastes here....

Republican Roman triarii are tend to be overrated in wargames rules. FoG is no exception, but it's a point of view even if I disagree with it. My reading of the FoG Mid-Republican Roman list suggests that the triarii are always one quality level higher than the hastati and principes within the same...

I toyed with the idea of a Yorkist WOTR army (I'm from Yorkshire), but settled on an English HYW army (I'm a PhD student of medieval studies, centred on the Angevin / Plantagenet 'empire', though not a military historian, I hasten to add). You may know that the Lancastrian cause was particularly st...
