NKE Chariot Runners

I have just finished reading up on chariot runners and was wondering how they would be treated in FOG. My understanding is that they were: • Usually foreigners • Shock troops • Fast moving compared to other infantry • Able to over power enemy chariots through numbers and aggressive attacking At firs...

If worried about LF being over powered use them in a mixed BG as a 3rd rank. After a game or two you wont think they are over powered.

table size is also related to the type of army, 800pts of knights doesn't take up much space but 800ts of cheap units fills up the table from end to end.

I think terrain placement in FOG is one of the worst done elements. A typical example I see in most games with a barbarian army with lots of MF and not much cav is that it finds itself fighting in the open more often than not as the other side with cav will have the initiative. Once the initiative p...

I agree that the Medieval armies have an advantage over ancient ones. Knights in particular seem cheap compared to lancer cav and cats. The answer is to assume that you will face a high portion of medieval armies and build an army accordingly. My recommendations - Protected hoplites are good value a...

"No, they lose one dice per 2 in melee, so one base in the second rank provides a dice along with the Legio next to him. 2 dice. So no loss. However when you have lost 2 bases of the fighting troops and have 2 LF in the second rank they lose 1 dice per 2 so only add one dice for the second rank" I c...

Actually I think you have over stated how good LF archers are, they only get 1 dice per 2 bases plus suffer an additional neg POA for shooting at a target at impact combat. I have used 3rd rank LF archers in both a Roman and Arab armies. They are marginally more useful used with the Romans as they b...

Buy the cheapest LF your army allows and use them as a one rank deep screen, poor quality is best. You want either one of these events to occur, during the approach the LF break from the LB and rout leaving your HF/MF open to charge or better yet you have impact or offensive spear/pike that charge t...

I field a unit of dailami as part of my Fatimid army, 6 MF with 3 LF as a 3rd rank. 3 games in a row they won the battle for me as I max out the terrain which impacts on the HF and knight armies more than the Fatimid’s. One unit is good of MF is excellent, however a whole army made up of MF could be...

I have had a similar experience however if the HF intercept the charge so that the LH can't reach the artillery does the artillery have to test for being charged? What about the situation where the interception occurs so that the original chargers don't move at all, seems strange that the original t...

I would say that your opponent played very well if your archery did not disrupt because of the counter measures that he took that you listed. Once quick question. Were you concentrating fire from 2 or more BG on one target BG or were you matching one for one? The former is usually more effective ov...

What were the other armies in the comp? My fatimids were in the comp, came in the middle. I fought the Swiss to a draw (slight advantage to the Swiss) and had a good win over the Carthaginians. My worst enemy was an classical Indian, it was almost at the end of the game before I killed my first Ind...

Further to the comment about Legionaries against longbow men I would suggest adding offensive spearmen or pikes. What I would do is put a screen of the cheapest LF you can buy in front of the HF and move them up towards the archers. Don’t move the LF out of the way, just let the HF charge straight t...

How does the knight/cav poa for armor not work? are you saying the POA's cancel each other out?(spears in 3 ranks not disrupted)
What I meant is that armoured foot is no better than protected foot when facing heavy armoured horse.

I would try and fit in at least one unit of cheap unprotected/protected bow armed cav, not quite as fast as LH but useful to have running around in support of the LH.

I thought protected spear are good value, cheap and can stand up to cav that is 3 times the price. Best used against heavy armoured horse where the ‘armoured’ or protected work exactly the same, i.e. not at all. I am more than happy to take cheap undrilled protected hoplites up against superior knig...

I can't see more than one Asian based army lists being a commercial success. Interest in these types of armies is very limited. Maybe put out a single book covering the main armies of interest with the others being provided free on line. I might buy a single book in this case but no way would I both...
