From all my games the pike have a slight advantage over the Romans. points to remember: - Need to protect the flanks of those pikes - Your cav is usually better than the romans - My best victories are where the pikes remain in place and your superior cav crushes one or both flanks of the romans - Ro...

Poor LF javelin men at 2pts each are the super weapon of FOG, I always buy them if available. I usually play HF armies and a screen of poor javmen are just as effective as average or superior lights for stopping the heavies getting hit. The javelin is better than other missile weapons for poor quali...

-1 on a test is a massive amount, almost all rolls in my games seem to be lost or past by 1 PIP.

I think the question here is around a simple move becoming a difficult move for undrilled when within 6MU of bad guys. If within 6MU of bad guys single wheel is a difficult move for undrilled MI, i.e. not do able if contracting. I don't have my rules in front of me but that is how we have been playi...

Not much point trying to get the LF archers into a front rank as they only get 2 dice with shooting. The downside is that the other 2 ranks of HF are treated like LF if anyone attacks them. No way does having a couple of shooting dice compensate for the risk of the BG getting into combat with a fron...

4 LT archers costing 20pts is a very expensive way to get a single 2/6 chance of scoring a single hit during the impact phase (only against mounted). I think that the rules should have given a discount for LT used as a 3rd rank. It’s a shame that the rules have chosen to over price this type of troo...

3rd rank LF archers support

I am putting together an Arab army and it seems all the armies from the Crusader period are stuck with having to include a 3rd rank of LF archers with their HF. These seem to be the worst pts value in the game if my understanding of them is correct, namely: • Only shoot at impact phase against mount...

Does the loss of a die still apply in the following scenarios where the disrupted BG has different POA against the 2 enemy BGs. Scenario 1: The POA are different but the overall effect is the same, i,e, -1 and a -2 POA both require a 5 or 6 to hit Scenario 2: The POA are different but the overall ef...

I think you are both wrong. From my understanding the unit has to start its second move outside 6 MU, it can then move as close as it likes in the second move, subject to its normal move range.

Trouble with a battle line is that it is a long wheel move if you have 3 or more BGs of elephants lined up. During our game I maxed out the open fields as it seemed the best terrain for Mi/elephants. However as with almost every game I have ever played of FOG all the terrain gets moved by the other ...

Played Indians vs Alex Macedonians a few days ago. The natural enemy of the elephant is the pike, it get a net +1 POA in both melee and impact. One pike unit in our game destroyed 3 elephant battle groups, plus a unit of clubmen for good measure.

way too many pts wasted on lt foot, I always field the cheapest available. Poor Lt Jav are the killer troop type of the game, at 2pts each.

The expensive Lt never kill their weight in pts.

Wheeling while charging

Had this situation tonight: C - cav (German) L - LH (Roman) H - heavy foot (Roman) ..CC ..CC .LL .LLHHH ....HHH The Cav start about 3 MU away from the LH and declare a charge on the LH. The LH evades, if the cav had moved straight ahead it would have hit the left hand side base of the heavy foot. Ho...

Last time I played the Seleucid I didn’t field the Imitation Legionnaires as I feel it makes the Seleucid a bit too powerful. 3 blocks of pike flanked by the legionnaires is very strong. Coupled with good cav the army doesn’t seem to have any major weakness.

They still count 2 AP. Having decent bow-armed LF is also good in that it allows them to support fire from better (LH, Cav, MF) units - the more dice the better, who cares if they came from LF? Got me confused with that one, I thought the LF had to be part of the BG, i.e. 3rd rank and only fire in ...
