Livy and Plutarch's Life of Pyrrhus would be the obvious ancient sources for the army in Italy. Diodorus might have some information as well. In general I would expect that the Epirote/Greek/Hellenistic troops in the army would be very similar in appearance to contemporary Macedonian armies in appea...

Hi, If you're trying for PBI of +4 you need to get 10 H Cv in your list. I'd suggest dropping the Agema and the Cretans (take Macedonians instead) and getting 6 Thessalian HC instead. You may need to decide what is more important, PBI of +4 or the ability to take the Hypaspists as MF. I noticed thi...

There is a limit of no more than 6 Greek mercenary/Allied Traditional Hoplites after 328 BC which using the Scythians requires. I'm not sure if this applies to MF Ipkikratian Hoplites (your MF) or not but would not allow you to upgrade them to HF. I just posted my idea for alist to the previous Alex...

Hi, Any comments on this list as a first shot at an Alexandrian Macedonianlist ? Currently at 795 point by my count. Any thoughts on whether 3x8 vs 2x 12 for foot companion BG's? I decided on 8's because that way the Thracians can provide rear support for 2 of them if there isn't bad ground to be co...

Oh no that brings back memories .... maybe a SHC Cataphract chariots to go with them! Indeed the Romans in FOG play the way you desribe history. Best solution to losing the cav wings I have found is to kill the enemy infantry before it happens!! Ellies can cause trouble and did - but a few ja...

It is the Klibanophoroi we are talking about. The ordinary cavalry are in BG of 4-6 like everyone else's. It is probably arguable whether the Klibanophoroi should have lances at all since they seem to have relied far more on dense formation and sowrds/maces for their effect rather than charging hom...

Re: Nikephorian Byzentine

Hi, I'm just vetting a Nikephorian list (from a beta) for the NZ nationals and wondered if I'm reading the Kataphraktoi right: their BGs can be at most 2 bases in size, with 1 front rank base with lance and sword, and 1 rear rank base with bow and sword, and they can have a total of 2 of these micr...

There are no BGs of berserkers simply because on the scale of a FoG battle they didn't opperate as a BG. Hooray! :D The old idea of units of beserkers used to annoy me quite a lot. What! you mean you didn't like 6 figure wedges of Irr A LMI 2 side arms??? ;) Some how those wedges sound like good ra...

At least "Decline and Fall" conveys some information. People are likely to guess that it does have something to do with Rome (or New Rome in this case ;-).) IMHO, ithe title is both classier with its Gibbon referemce and more informative than titles like "Immortal File" or "Eternal Empire" (or was t...
