Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

May 12, 1945, last turn. As known, game would be decided in the last turn. Seeing how Budapest was holding against Soviet attacks, it wasn't a sure thing that Red Army would be able to enter Berlin. Anyway, Soviets had quite good elite units in the Oder and a massive air force to support them. In Ax...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Italy, 1945. 1945 started with 2 forts of the Gustav Line still standing. This was indicative of a really slow Allied progress here. Anyway, Allies were able to breach a 3rd fort right in January 12, 1945 (turn 99). In February, attacks on the remaining fort, defended by a 4-stars xp German paratroo...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Western Front, Spring 1945. As expected, once fair weather arrived, activity much increased in this front. In March 13, 1945 (turn 102), German started to launch effective counterattacks vs Allied beachheads in Denmark: in a matter of 2 turns, they succeeded in removing the landings, thus ruining an...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Eastern Front, Spring 1945. After seizing Warsaw and after fair weather in central came to stay (it did on turn 102, March 13, 1945), Red Army entered central Poland and there was nothing that Axis forces could do to stop them. Soviets, many times taking advantage of the exploitation movement due to...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Western Front, early 1945. During 1944-45 Winter, Western Allies continued to slowly progress, widening their lodgement hex by hex. Good German units, like Rommel's XVIII PzK 1xS of Bremen, were killed as a consequence of Allied attacks always made with generous air support from England-based TAC's....

Re: POTZBLITZ V5.21 (beta), OCT 8th

This is a very good job you are doing to the game. Seeing how much you are progressing about the AI, I wonder how far you could go trying to change the map. I miss a much more accurate WW1 map, regarding borders, etc. Could we get rounded borders instead of the current ones? Also, to include histori...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Eastern Front, early 1945. In January 12, 1945 (turn 99) a Wehrmacht counterattack in the Wisla drove the Soviets back to the eastern bank again. It seemed like the Axis was going to offer some resistance along the river. Anyway, in Allies reply, Red Army crossed again the river and formed a new bri...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Western Front late Summer-Autumn 1944. We left it here with US-UK forces consolidating and expanding their respective beahheads by August 1944. It seemed like a good start and that, with some luck and good weather, Western Allies could even think in a fast campaign in Northern-Western Germany, and s...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Eastern Front, late Summer-Autumn 1944. The Axis started a general retreat from the Dnepr river positions in August 25, 1944 (turn 92). In Novgorod-Velikiye Luki front, in which lately there had been some activity, Germans and Finns also retreated. In Allies reply, the battle for the Dnepr bend came...

MTO, Southern France, second half of 1944. 2 turns later than Allied massive landings in Northern Germany, Free French forces accompanied by a Canadian corps, landed unopposedly in Southern France taking Perpignan. In September 14, 1944 (turn 93), referred forces have much progressed, liberating Tou...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Italy, second half of 1944. No matter the hard trying by the Allies, stalemate continued in central Italy for all the rest of 1944. All what Allies could do before bad weather arrived was to remove one of the Gustav Line forts, the one in the Adriatic Sea coast: http://imageshack.com/a/img923/6916/M...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Another downside of directly landing in Northern Germany is the supply issues that Allies have to undergo. Also, Paris counts for the final victory as capital of one of the major powers.

Re: POTZBLITZ V5.21 (beta), OCT 8th

I was thinking about applying a slight randomization on starting units strength, since in my opinion it's not very realistic/historical to have every single land unit at peak strength when a nation joins the war. Let's hear about what you think of this: - all leaderless Army/Cavalry or Reserve Corp...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

In 4.00, damage taken by paratroopers when dropped over cities and capitals has been much increased. You get really bad odds when aiming at jumping on those hexes. When trying to jump into capitals you can actually get your paratrooper unit completely destroyed. On the contrary, if you jump on rail ...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Western Front, Summer of 1944. In turn 89 (June 26, 1944), Western Allies went for a big amphibious operation in Holland-Northern Germany: http://imageshack.com/a/img922/7647/3qaC3x.png Shot above was taken at the end of Allies moves. You can see that the seaborne operation was preceded by an airbor...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

I cancelled US landings in Britanny because Wehrmacht forces deployed in Northwestern France were way too strong. Later, we knew that Luftwaffe forces in France-Germany were also quite strong so guessing that US landings would have been largely defeated by the Germans. Anyway, I don't think that it'...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Eastern Front, Spring-Summer 1944. Battle for the Dnepr. We left here with the Soviets clearing of Axis units all lower Dnepr eastern bank hexes. Shortly after, Red Army also succeeded in forming a bridgehead 1xS of Dnepropetrovsk and in conquering a wide river hex 2xSW of mentioned city. With such ...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Thanks for the comments Carlos. Indeed, lately it's often encountered this 1944 Luftwaffe last big effort vs Western Allies air power. If Germans strip the Eastern front of air units and redeploy them in the Western front, they can challenge UK-USA air forces based in England for couple of turns or ...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

MTO, first half of 1944. If you recall, Italy surrendered to the Allies in December 9, 1943 (turn 79). Anyway, even before the conquest of Sicily, Western Allies had already sent transports to mainland Italy coasts, so in turn 80 (December 12,1943) the Allies landed and took unopposed the port of Ta...

Re: GS 4.0 AAR (last update) Plaid (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Western Front, first half of 1944. After the failed British 1942 landings, Wehrmacht kept a strong army in Normandy. Spotted by USAF and RAF, this 'Normandy army' stood throughout 1943 there. You can check that in the post above referring to 1943 Allied strategic campaign. Having discarded a landing...
