NZ National Championships - Easter 2016

Dates are Friday 25th March to Sunday 27th March 2016: 3 days, 6 games. Next up; where ? I'll run a straw-poll here, closing Friday 25th September. Options are: 1. Dunedin (to align with the rest of NatCon) 2. Upper Hutt (to align with DBR/DBMM crowd) 3. Auckland (cos that's where most of our FoGN p...

Re: What I finally ended up going with....nice and vanilla (

Ignore Kendall about small divisions of light cavalry . . . after all, he is the person who conceived and ran a division comprising just two small cossack units !! And very good it was too ! Personally, I am a fan. And I use small divisions of two light cavalry units often - indeed, my 1812 French m...

Re: HistorX 2

Coolio !!! . . . and, does the 'normal' games on the first day mean that we need to bring our own terrain along for 'normal' terrain setting purposes ?

Presumably, the second day scenario's will then have pre-set terrain ?

Can't wait !!

Re: Borodino Assault Group - Aggressive List?

hmmmm . . . come to think of it, having one of the two LC units as superior is a good addition into the whump capacity (also, BTB, re-rolling both 1's and 2's makes for an additional hit in combat for any small unit on average dice rolls !). You might be able to do that by shifting one or both of th...

Re: Borodino Assault Group - Aggressive List?

If it was me, I'd definintely want an officer attached to one of the superior shock cavalry units :D . In practice you want to maximise the units in combat rerolling both 1's and 2's !

Re: Borodino Assault Group - Aggressive List?

Also, it may be worth you checking out my French 'panzer division' list here: http://www.slitherine.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=198&t=47132 It needs a few tweaks now that the Neapolitan infantry doesn't sub for French conscripts :D . . . I'd drop the Swiss infantry unit and use the saved points for ...

Re: Borodino Assault Group - Aggressive List?

Not wanting to through a spanner into the works . . . I don't recall Nafziger's Orders of Battle for Borodino showing any such mixed cavalry Divisions.

Re: 1815 Prussians, which list is better

Yep - well, maybe you do, Kendall :D ! But you are also a fantatsic crafter of army-mixes (IMHO anyhows). For my two-penneth, if you fancy being aggressive in FoGN, then an exceptional general is the only way to go. Set the shape of the game up from the outset, pick the point of attack and use the e...

Re: 1815 Prussians, which list is better

Then definintely shell out for the Exceptional Corps commander ! The exceptional corps commander will give you the initiative edge you need to set the shape of the game with the (bonus) re-roll of a recovery test each turn to help keep you in the game. You only have 3 (weak ish) cavalry units = 3 sp...

Re: 1815 Prussians, which list is better

Hmmmm . . . not sure where to start. Prussians are a good choice for sure. Kendall posted his version some time ago on the forum - and that was a combo that I really really rated ! Definintely worth a look. What’s your “playing style” ? The key question for you to think about answering is ‘what is y...

Chance would be a fine thing. T'is far more about sensible gaps appearing in work and, mainly, as to what other attractions West Island has for 'the woman of my dreams' at approximately the same time and in roughly the same location :-) !!
