Re: FOGN Tournament in Melbourne, July 18th and 19th

Thank you Richard for all your work in putting this together - and more especially for soldiering on through your illness !!

See you again next year :-) ... and looking forward to the revamped scenarios already.

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition

Hmmmm ... I disagree about moving squares. Another way of thinking about the mechanism is that in your own bound you are able to form a steady square without penalty. It is only in your opponents bound that you run the risk of having an unsteady square. Thus, the entire game mechanism around the pro...

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition

Just to chip in on artillery ... Under the current points cost, I am a regular user of both horse and heavy batteries as I find the extra 8pts a bargain in both cases. For horse artillery you get to be largely immune to interference through the ability to evade and as a bonus you get huge flexibilit...

Re: HistorX 2

Sounds great ... will check the timing for any potential work related issues but I'll probably be there !! I'll have played a few games with the 1812 French by then, so may venture to bring the 1812 Russians instead; or if I am really in need of a sound thrashing, maybe the 1792 Prussians (who haven...

sliding a base width during an assault move ?

This came up in our Nationals: aa xx y y "x" and "y" are friendly units; "x" faces up the page, "y" is facing to the right and its front edge is slightly to the left of the right hand edge of "x". So, if "y" wheels 90 degrees to face up the page then its front left corner is behind the rear edge of ...

Re: Artillery:In Front or Beside??

On attack: batteries paired up to fire at inside- or outside-corner of the point of attack. Or wide on one flank.

On defence: in the line and paired in order to discourage an attack at that place in favour of somewhere else more suitable to me.

The great Russian smiting machine (above) swept all before it. Well, certainly in 3 of its 6 games it did ! Duncanovski possesses the Sharpe's Eagle trophy for the next year !!!

I will post the full results and analysis just as soon as I get to use a full keyboard ...

Re: NatCon 2015 - NZ National Championships

The “year of the Guard” !! 7 out of 10 armies contain at least 1 Guard unit. Players and armies: 1. Alastair Donald, Anglo-Portuguese 1812-14 2. Andrew Duncan, Russian Infantry 1813-14 3. Brett Preston-Thomas, French Imperial Guard Spring 1813 4. Keith Marshall, French Infantry 1812 5. Kit Goldsbury...

Re: Noob question on support fire zonesed

The key is your unit being in his unit's support zone. There are other conditions that need to be met (infantry not supporting cavalry and the supporting unit being within a base width of the attacking unit as two examples) but these are spelled out in the rules.

Reasonably easy ?

We have 10 entries that I'm aware of so far ... 3 army lists are already vetted and am waiting for the rest (you know who you are !!).

Once I have all lists vetted, I will publish the runners and riders list AND the first two rounds draws :D.

It seems the easiest solution, IMHO, is simply to allow infantry in a building to shoot at every unit shooting at them.
