Re: Artillery retire to 3 MU

The "retire to 3MU" shooting result is not an outcome move.

Re: 4-game weekend in Melbourne - Jan/Feb 2015

Game 4: attacking in a ‘normal’ 800 points-a-side game vs Richard Stubbs Richard was running his early revolutionary period French army – a large army of 15 or 16 units compared to my mere 10 units. Still, having fewer units (primarily through the presence of my Guards Infantry division) would mean ...

Re: 4-game weekend in Melbourne - Jan/Feb 2015

Game 3: defending in the Borodino scenario vs John Shaw John fielded an 1812 French army (complete with a cuirassier division) to round out a thoroughly historic match up against my 1812 Russians. With only 650pts at the defenders disposal in this scenario, I opted to deploy only around the large re...

Re: 4-game weekend in Melbourne - Jan/Feb 2015

Game 2: defending in the Marengo scenario vs Dave Inglis Dave used a Russian 1805 list which allowed him the use of 4 artillery batteries with 2 per division. This substantial artillery complement included 2 heavy batteries which together generate 8 dice at long range and hitting on just 5s against ...

4-game weekend in Melbourne - Jan/Feb 2015

Game 1: defending in the Salamanca scenario vs Richard Gordon. Richard was using a very nicely balanced 3 division French 1809 mix even though, as the attacker, he had only 650pts in this scenario. His flank marching division comprised a superior veteran cuirassier (with a gun) and an average drille...

Re: Abandoned guns

Charge goes full distance in original direction.

Guns aren't lost, just abandoned. Whether you can recover them or not will depend on getting an infantry unit back near to where they were abandoned.

2 charge situations

1. Line Infantry declare charge on skirmishing Light Infantry. The Lights evade through a cavalry unit. Does the Line Infantry stop 1MU short of the cavalry ? Or not start its charge move at all (cos it can't charge cavalry) ? 2. Cossack LC (skirmishers) charge skirmishing Light Infantry. The Lights...

Re: Extended line and unreformed

2 reformed line AD infantry units cost 80pts . . . I would expect them to eat up a small unreformed line AD unit at 32 points. Cost effectiveness is the measure of like-for-like points costs.

Re: Extended line and unreformed

A small unreformed AD infantry unit with rifle attached costs 42pts compared to 40pts for a vanilla reformed AD unit. In the presence of cavalry the unreformed unit will shoot with 2 dice while the reformed unit gets 1 dice - not a bad buy for just 2pts ! In the case of large units, the cost is 58pt...

Re: Extended line and unreformed

2 extra dice at close range for unreformed infantry is most-assuredly NOT the answer IMHO . . . if so, then on average no small unit could ever close cos unreformed shooters would score 3 hits and drive you back to 3MU. Currently, on average, 2 hits forces a CMT to close. I'd support Brits being eit...

Re: Extended line and unreformed

A 2 or 4 pt cost for a unit to increase its shooting effectiveness by having rifles by 25% should not be set to one side :-) !!

Re: Extended line and unreformed

The key issue here is game effectiveness vs points cost. If something is less effective in the game for the same points cost then the game becomes unbalanced. In this regard, both Richard and Alastair are correct to say that British infantry are disadvantaged - the 2MU movement reduction for the sam...

Re: Field fortifications - to clarify

Hah. I will NOT hear a bad word about large unreforemd Poor Conscripts ! In one of the Melbourne scenario games, one of my two (!) Opelchenie regiments resisted (without routing !) two units of encroaching LC with artillery attachments long enough to allow more infantry to come and save the day. Lik...

Re: Cossacks Irregular Cavalary Evades?

Page 30, RH column provides for LC skirmisher responses.

As does the new QRS.

No doubt irregular LC skirmishers evade whether in extended line or tactical.

Mike H or Terry commented on this many threads ago.
