Re: "Actual" sizes for various units?

That's what I been sayin'. Small unit TACTICAL level combat with an army level STRATEGIC map. Game might have been called "Kampfgruppe" and battle should be at a company/battalion level on a city sized map. There are hundreds of such battles well documented and would have allowed for MANY battles/sc...

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

The Germans did so well early on because of the element of surprise, deception, overwhelming numbers (except for France '40 where they had a bigger air force than the Allies), better trained and experienced troops, more modern equipment, the combined arms tactic, the blitzkrieg strategy, tanks used ...

Re: what do medals do?

Oh, go ahead...make the game more interesting!
Grant medal awardees over-boosted ammo or award them an upgrade of equipment, or repair of damage or something of the sort.

Same problem as Panzer Corps?

Sounds like this game may suffer from the same problem as Panzer Corps...units engaged in tactical smaller scale combat on strategic level maps with strategic level consequences. "Panzer Battalion" Or "Kampfgruppe" as a game name and/or scope might be more appropriate with a potentially unending bat...

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

OK, let me wax megalomaniac... The Axis lost the war because they attacked the two sleeping giants--the USA and Russia. At the same time! They were eventually overwhelmed by force of industry. What strategy by the Axis powers could have led to victory ( a DV!)? I think keeping the USA (the "arsenal ...

Re: AA units a bunch of questions.

There's the optional DLC East '44 battle (anybody remember which one?) where you can walk off with four+ AA core units after raiding the airbases. Then you got too many.

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

Another one:
During the Battle of Britain, Hitler, angered at the bombing of Berlin, switched to bombing major cities rather than continue the successful strategy of bombing British airfields, sector stations, aircraft factories and radar sites.

Re: Stalingrad, the Docks, and the Ruins

Docks: A useful successful strategy is a northern based** one utilizing the northern airfields and their AA guns. You need to shuttle maybe two Fw190As ( a lot of fuel for hang time over river)) and a naval bomber or two (He-177 if you got 'em) across this safe zone out to the river Volga where you ...

#1 German war strategy: kill Hitler!
It boggles the imagination what a peaceful prosperous industrious Western Europe might have been without the megaginormous destruction and death of WWII.
I hope Russia and China learned their lesson....maybe not?

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

The unsuccesful 110 series was discontinued and morphed into the unstable 210 and later 410 series the latter more successful more so as ground attack (unable to match high-performance Allied fighters). I understand that the Germans never got around to developing successful drop tanks because of Ude...

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

Right! The Allies captured an 'Enigma' machine, broke the code and knew what the Germans were planning! The forerunner to cyberespionage (cipherespionage!) I guess... Put this up near the top of the list. Two books of interest I have read: Command Failure In War. Psychology and Leadership , by Rober...

Re: German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

No one wishes any other WWII outcome and thank goodness the Germans lost. We are talking strategy and strategy only. One can perform a similarly interesting analysis of Allied strategy. Why don't you!? General George Patton studied Rommel's book in his quest to develop the US Army in North Africa. T...

German WWII war strategy: coulda, shoulda, woulda

Strategy--tactical to strategic--is critical in winning any battle or war. As a couch potato General I got to thinking. Here is my dozen errors in WWII German war strategy (of course its easy to be a Monday morning quarterback). What are yours (limit to one dozen please)? Expulsion of German Jewish ...
