Re: First FoG Army - Syracusans @ 600 points

Hi everyone. That's a total of 610 points, I really don't know what to change to get to 600. I've tried to maximize the point cost of some things, for example, both BGs of the Citizen hoplites are Drilled, so as to make the army as cheap as possible (money)... but if you convince me to include othe...

Any army which exceeds 100 points of LH should lose 100 points of troops from their army total. As a punishment for their evil ways the owner of a LH army would lose the equivalent points as their historical counterpart; as these men would have left the main army to pillage the innocent. Hans The t...

I just used dates that were compatible with Carolingian Franks, I'm not sure if they had converted by then or not. It depends a lt on who you had leadin?g. there was a great deal of internal fighting that went on with 'staying Pagan' vs 'convertion' and it seems that the two camps were very staunch...

Easier to paint, especially for those of us whose eyes are not so good, and easier to sculpt detail on them. The base size could make it easy enough to tell what is what I guess. I'm not sure I agree with that. I personally find my 10mm figures easier to paint than my 15mm, and 15mm easier to paint...

Which book would I find that in?
Armoured MF Offensive Spear... that's the trick. Unprotected when on horseback, but Armoured when they dismount!

Re: Probably grinding an old ax: Compatibility of movement r

Upon comparison—some of these movement rates are counter-intuitive. It is hard to believe that Light Foot can outrun Kn, and keep pace with CV. It is also hard to believe that Medium Foot can keep pace with, or not be caught by Kn. It might be counter intuitive, but the facts are that infantry and ...

You could simplify it somewhat, and perhaps avoid indecision, by allowing variation by quarters, ie the OOB specifies what quarter each BG goes into, but you can vary the order the quarters go down pre-deployment. Yes, so you could have a situ where you have an army of 12 BG's being broken down int...

Ian - thanks for your reply! Having thought about it a bit longer I have come to the conclusion that you suggest - roll with what I have for now which is a tub of paid for, ready to clean prime and paint Late Romans, Huns and Goths. I was getting all hot and bothered to do 9th century England, havi...

Haha, the guy I was playing is nice and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't use loaded dice as it was only a friendly game. Maybe those two guys had done something to offend Oden or Thor or something. What period Vikings are you running? Perhaps you should go to a later date and pick the 'in vogue' God. Ian

Re: Order of March

There are hardly any (are there any?) armies that are 100% only one troop type, and I would actually think that any change to deployment would be of benefit to those armies. Ian There are some that can be just one troop type Yes, there are armies that can be one troop type, but are there any armies...

Re: Order of March

This extra flexibility is good for more flexible armies (two trick ponies) at the expense of one trick ponies. The thing is it makes one trick lists even harder in open comp and I dont think they need that. I can see your point, but I'm not sure I 100% agree with it. There are hardly any (are there...

Order of March

Hi All, I've been thinking about the 'order of march' at deployment, and had a thought for competition. What if your list was fixed (one list comp) but you could change the order of deployment dependant on who you were fighting, thus you would out who your opponent was, (Syracusan vs Italian Condott...

If you've already got the lead perhaps the Roman & Huns is a good way to go. Light Horse is extremely manouverable (as you'd expect) and Romans aren't far behind. It makes for a simpler expedition into FoG. Out of the two triads, I think the second is good. I think Vikings (naturally - look at my li...

Turning and Shifting

Hello All, I've got a question about turning and shifting (all distances in 15mm scale). Two BG's of Spearmen (2 deep) are facing in the same direction directly behind one another, so that effectively they have no space between them. The BG in front wishes to turn 90 degrees. They roll their CMT and...

I am willing to offer a free beer to the first person to actually pull it off in a tournament. I'm disappointed in your hammy. By now I'd have expected statistical analysis. On the original question, I can only think of one list where a “misdescription” on deployment is allowed - Syracusan, where" "Mob can pretend to be "Offensive Spear" Yep, and I've used them 8). The funny thing was that one guy I play regularly uses Spartan, and just before we played I'd soundly bea...
