.... If it's a "serious" competition, I'm probably writing down their list anyway out of interest and they may be writing down mine too, so why be an arsehole about giving a number that can be calculated in a few seconds? Regards, Peter Dont beat about the bush. Say what you mean Mr moderator Calli...

It's a shame if that's your experience in Oz. Oh, I'm not saying it's a pandemic in Australia, in fact all of my comp games bar one in Oz have been fantastic. What I'm saying is that a competition always brings out the worst in (some) people, like winning is more important than playing the game and...

Aren't lists checked and submitted in comp's for a reason - i.e. to ensure they are legal. Maybe if they have such an issue they should call an umpire to validate the opponents deployment vs calculating an opponents list and wasting playing time. I'm all for disclosure and do it as it helps the gam...

Mercee book oo.

I've never understood 'Steppe'. I mean, I wouldn't think Steppe when I think of upper east Syria *shrug*.

Hi All,

I don't have my book on me right now, could someone tell me:

Terrain types, and what year the list starts and until when the Romans can be used.

Thank you

On a similar note in a recent competition my opponent asked for my points per unit type and he proceeded to calculate what I had put on the table. Yes, this is the problem with competitions. It brings out the worst kind of wargamer. Myself, in that situation, I would have said "that's not a part of...

You need to be positive with heavy foot but if you are then you can win in the time limit. No doubt this is part of my problem. The armies that I like the history and falvour of aren't the armies that fought the way that suits my style of play. I'm not an overly aggressive player. There will be tim...

Classical Indians vs Romans Three straight "1's" for death rolls. Pick up three elephant BG's. There goes the battle. Indians are still sulking in the case  John Yes, that actually shows a point about statistics. My 1:5900 chance of happening sounds a lot worse than your 1:216 chance of happe...

Ouch! Even assuming he is superior with a general that is still very unlikely. I make it 1.56% for you to miss with all 6 dice, 3.90% for him to hit with all 4 dice so 0.06% of that combat result. Fragmenting would need a roll of 5 or less so 27.6% which makes an overall 0.02% chance or 1 on 5900. ...

Re: More Cats

But they can wheel if more than 6 MU away. This is a simple move. It only becomes a difficult, and therefore complex, move at or closer than 6 MU. At which point if you fail once there is no getting away. Because the next turn the pike are in your and their charge distance. You're assuming the Pike...

Horror Stories

Ok, I'll start... I had a BG of 8 Offensive Spear 3 ranks deep (2 ranks of 3 rear rank of two for casualties). I was charged by a BG of Lance armed cavalry who were disordered as they were in a 'Brush'. On impact, I roll 6 dice advantaged he rolls 4 dice disadvantaged. How many hits did he get? 4. H...

What are you using the primer for in Canberra? I can only think of one good use, and that would involve politicians and replacing their oxygen with the primer.

Re: More Cats

I think undrilled cats are fine. I've been playing them exclusively for the last few months and they generally behave themselves. Deploy well back and get them out of the way of anything they dont want to fight. What the bejesus are they doing in front of pike in any case? I took three turns at try...

I still prefer drilled since they are guaranteed to make that move you want them to over luck of the die and they sit there discussing which way is right and what the term wheel actually means. Now if you can hold them back and pin a target then that is good but undrilled is still pretty much point...

More Cats

Hi All, I've raised this topic before, but want to ask again in the hope that I get a different answer :D I run the Palmyrans with a lot of Romans. I also have had a bad experience with Undrilled Cats, so prefer to take Drilled (which is what got me attracted to the Palmyrans in the first place). Gi...

but it just seems wasteful to have so much armour on your can-opener wielders. Not at all. Vs Protected Pike: Pike are + for 3 ranks + for a 4th rank = ++ Unprotected & Protected Heavy Weapons = + for heavy weapon so fighting at a disadvantage. Armoured & Heavily Armoured = + for heavy weapon + for...

Re: Side Shooting Horse Archers

Hi Most of the horse archer figures I have are shooting to the side. Is it possible to base them without making it look as if they're shooting at their comrades? Thanks I use 10mm figures and I base them racing around in a circle. Looks really good. The only problem is that the front isn't as obvio...

No, I was just thinking tactics, so the tactic I had in mind wouldn't work.

Thanks for the quick reply.
