Re: Godendag 2019

Bob,

As my wife brought the tickets, we can exclude the last option.

Re: Godendag 2019

I am fairly certain I am going to play, but have a small problem in that I have Rick Wakeman tickets for the Saturday night, so may have to leave a little early.

Re: Oxford events for 2019

I am ok for the April date and have put in the diary.

The February date would be ok, but I may need to borrow an army.

Re: Oxford events for 2018

I would love to come, but unfortunately only get back in the UK at midnight Saturday night.
I will try and attend as many one day events as possible next year as I will be slowing to 3 days a week.

Oxford is good for me as not too far to drive.

Re: Attack! 2017 - Devizes

Just to let you know that there will not be a competition at Devizes this year. The numbers have been declining over the last couple of years and Devizes have taken the decision to use the space for other competitions. Richard and I had declined to organise this year, so if someone else is willing t...

Re: Elephants

I would go with 20 points each, deployment as cavalry and hopefully the supporting cavalry will get cheaper / better if their cost is reduced.

Re: Commanded Shot - proposal

Would it add too much of a complication to have them add to an armies BG total?

They currently add to the numbers, but in the proposals we appear to all agree with, they do not.

I also think if you discard them, this should have a negative effect.

I don't think so. You have to keep them hidden from any fire for as long as possible.

You could allow for larger units, but then they would be difficult to hide.

Re: Elephants

Plea for them to be 15 points for us simpletons - 30 AP a BG is nice and easy... Would certainly get them out the box again at 15 points each :D :D :D :D Don Does that mean 15 may be a touch cheap, or about right? Considering the other alterations you are looking at, I would say 20 points was neare...

Re: Light Artillery

They are a LOT more useful than Heavy Artillery. I'd prefer 4 Light Artillery to 2 Heavy Artillery. I'd be opposed to changing very much about them. I do think they are fine, but have no problem with a divisional move. Nothing else is required IMHO. I'd back this comment. I would go with this sugge...

Re: Dragoons

Is there any evidence for evasion by dragoons on the battlefield in this period? By chance I have come across a possible example from the ECW where some dragoons faced with horse advancing on them at about "half musket shot" fired a volley and then "they took horse and away they run". Could you ple...

I still think the best way around this, is to deploy them in the first batch of troops.

Simple and easy.

Re: Duty and Glory

Was it ever considered giving each list a mounted to infantry ratio, so only armies that had a large proportion of mounted can be field as such. When I did some SYW lists way back, I had a ratio of both cavalry and guns to infantry, to prevent unhistorical proportions of troop types. This wasn't a p...

Re: Mounted Points

Cavalry should be no more costly than Horse of the same grade / armour. Don't agree cheaper, as the evade capability most cavalry have is a very valuable asset. Others I have spoken to find it a bit marginal - but that may be theme related - and that the -ve CT modifier for being shot at by firearm...

Re: Commanded Shot

Have we considers markers similar to regimental guns?

A small round base with shooters on, moved to the back of the unit once in melee and removed when a unit routs.

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA

I would prefer an improved saving throw where a looser has better armour. Armour is not an offensive weapon, it doesn't kill anyone.

LADG treats armour this way and I think it is one of the best things in the rules.

I spoke to RBS about this point last week and he was happy to consider.
