Re: Suggestion for improving the failure model

I feel BASPM is a little trigger happy on the total-crew-kills failures, though I have a small sample size. I've had a couple component failures that my flight controllers and astronauts couldn't fix, both of them ended with total-crew-kills. I felt BARIS was a lot more forgiving. Minor glitch on a ...

Re: Feedback: increasing "agency", player customization and

If I read the OP correctly, he wants more narrative. To quote xkcd: http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/sports.png This is what humans beings do. We turn events into stories, look for causes and effects, follow the actors. Sometimes BASPM feels like trying to extract a story from a spreadsheet. At the very ...

Re: Fun game, poor interface

I take the view that the actions you do the most often and the actions that you spend the most time doing should be made as simple and painless as possible, including integrating the info you need to make those decisions. Try to minimize the number of seconds / number of clicks needed to bring up th...

Re: Fun game, poor interface

I repeat: It's a management game. The UI makes it harder to manage. This is bad design. Yes, you certainly could "get used to" having to double-click to do anything in a RTS, but people would rightly complain that it is unnecessary. And if I was on a touch screen, I would still want the ability to a...

Fun game, poor interface

The first time I sent a man to the moon (Gemini with direct ascent module), I got goosebumps. Already have 45 hours logged on Steam. That said, the game's interface is annoying. I mentioned a couple things back when I had time to keep up with beta-testing (to be fair, some other things I did complai...

Re: Number of seasons per year

The number of seasons should work with the speed of R&D. In BARIS, you could average 17.5% improvement if you bought 5 dice, er... R&D teams. BASPM limits how much progress can be made as reliability gets near max R&D reliability, so it takes more seasons, hence the need for more seasons. tl;dr The ...

Re: First game notes

- Why is the X-15 astronaut skill "leadership" not "piloting"? I still need to go through the mission scripts and tweak the values so that the proper skill gets used. The issue is that, I think, the job title is named "Pilot." But I just looked at Mercury, and the name seems dissociated from the ac...

Re: project dependencies

Any chance for a flowchart or similar to show what is required and what is recommended before proceeding? This seems like something we as players could create on our own. Except that right now I wouldn't bother with the game having the potential to change frequently. Yes, players can create it, but...

Re: Thoughts on the game

There are a number of missions with shared components but yes you do have a lot of rockets to research. Some mission do share components. They all had different specs and abilities which is why they were created historically. We could look at a system that allowed more freedom of selection but we'd...

Re: Sputnik reliability 0% - success?!

Anecdotal evidence: my first game, I maxed out R&D before making the X-15 flight. It failed on the landing. I didn't realize reliability had dropped by ~45% and ordered the same mission next season. Everything worked. Second game, I maxed out R&D. First X-15 flight failed on the exact same step. The...

Re: Some bugs

Other than that, I would like to see: - A way to fire people - I would like to be able to replace my weak researchers with someone better - Some easier navigation for research - at the moment it's a bit of a pain to manage the projects I second these. Maybe firing shouldn't be free; you might have ...

Re: First impressions

To be fair, the BARIS ui was awful. This game is actually a slight improvement on it, even now. But we don't love BARIS for its good UI :D I'm going to have to disagree with that. Okay, sometimes it was hard to tell in BARIS what components were needed for a particular mission, or what missions you...

Re: BARIS features you'd like to see

I would like to mention the incremental R&D you get in BARIS for developing first a capsule/rocket, then starting to develop the next one. For example, if you research Mercury at max, you get a R&D advantage when you start with Gemini. I would like that especially for rockets; for example, having m...

Feedback on v0.7.3

Here are my notes from tonight: 1) SET Center: It's unclear what some things mean. What's the star for? What's the lightbulb mean? That's the sort of thing that should be in the ? help button or delayed hover text. Also, it would be really great if there was a way to get the exact numbers for the st...

Re: Early Access

Quick question on the early access program: does the Mercury Tier including getting a digital copy of the final release game (including patches, if applicable)? Right now, the description mostly talks about getting access to the beta, not the final release. Thanks.
