I really like how troops are given capabilities, rather than weapons. It solves so many problems. I like the POA system as a method for determining who has the combat advantage in any given situation. I like the BG size restrictions, keeping armies looking like armies. I like the differences betwee...

What I like

I Know this part is about changes for FoG 2.0 what about good things in FoG 1.0? I like the unpredictable nature of combat and shooting out comes. For example last night's game I was using a Central Asian City States, a mist and grit army against a Cartho army. This is a summary of the shooting 2x B...

I think you need to keep charge to move on skirmishers, I know it seems that HF should just push back LF and I am sure it happened a lot but in the compressed nature of the game (limited time and space) you need to break up the BL a bit faster than what would have happened in an actual battle. Havin...

Isn't that the reason the Brits started to break ranks as soon as the battle looked like it had been won to go off and get prisoners not just for the ransom but also for your prisoners kit to sell. Certainly the armour was expensive but nobody turn up to the Black Princes' chevauchees wearing great ...

I in part agree with Phil that DF should a POA tie breaker but only when charging other foot. Can I prove in battles no but then why did the authors give DF spears a POA for charging other DF spears what is their justification? The only army I know enough about that uses DF spears is the Crusaders a...

John of Joinville mentions at the battle a company of dismounted crossbowmen arrive at the river crossing and their shooting drives of the Mamluks and saves the day then everyone heads for Cairo. What I have not been able to work out does John mean infantry foot crossbowmen or genuine mounted crossb...

look at it this way; if you were a senior employee at work and the boss invited you to a social function where all the management, less senior employees than you and the boss were going to be would you; a. wear an outfit from five years ago? b. go out and buy the best new outfit you can afford? Note...

As the ancients and late armies where in separate comps so the winning 12 BG army did not fight the winning ancient army of 16 Bgs so I not sure just because a 12 BG won the late comp it proves in open comps a 12 Bg army has the same chance of winning as 16+ BG army with equal skilled players. But a...

Why don't the comp organisers put a cap on the number of BGs an army can have to either 15 of 16? Taking the very simple view, all the suggestions good or bad are tweaking with the rules but as the rules are designed to give a "relatively" even fight between armies with 10 to 15 BG in three to three...

No Phil, they did not, Islam may have conquered a lot of the known world and as a consequence Arab culture and influence may have spread far and wide. Surely it is better for them to be average than too powerful? Using a rationale of “they beat the Arabs a couple of times” as a justification for superior makes me wonder why the Scots spears aren’t all superior, they beat the English in a couple of battles and the English never did get around to c...

Not again! Its all about the CT if you are playing against a lucky pick who never or rarely fails a CT then shooting will seem extremely ineffective whereas the reverse is true if you keep failing CTs shooting will be far too effective. The only way to minimise the random CT effects is to concentrat...
