Re: A discussion about maps . . .

I think those are a geat improvement, Pete. Maybe I too slavish in following the TT rules, but with everyting landing on the table there might be ten terrain features total and some might double up -- i.e. a forest on top of a hill. So the majority of PC maps look nothing like a TT battlefield. Also...

Re: A discussion about maps . . .

I agree with Chris. Also, having initiative dosen't automatically make one side the attacker and the other the defender. I should add that decent maps are a requirement. By this I mean a lot less fantastic and a lot less busy even in very closed terrain. How many games have you played where a one-he...

Re: A discussion about maps . . .

The easiest reform would be to create a set of sane maps of which several would be presented to the winner of initiative for selection. He would then send this to his opponent who would then choose which side of the map to deploy on. He would send this back to player one and play would commence as u...

Re: Companion Cup VI - The glistening of spears

Battle Result: Punics (deeter) 34/57 vs. Greek (Lysimachos) 82/73 The Greeks drew a perfect definsive map with a long low hill along one edge and both flanks protected by plantations. Despite serval invitatiosn, they declined to join me on the flats. Seeing the wall of zombie-like Athenian hoplites,...

Re: Bombards--are they realistic in this game?

I once played a TT recreation of a Roman civil war battle in which the enemy massed scorpions on one flank. My partner charged them with masses of Sarmatian lancers. Balaclava comes to mind, except none of the artillery was ever taken. The hapless Sarmatians were repeatedly shot to pieces as they tr...

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Final rematch result:

Gallic (Deeter) 35/44 vs. Rome (lydianed) 47/38

A very exciting battle that I though I'd lost until near the end. Naked men rule!

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch result:

Punic (Deeter) 30/43 vs. Rome (iandavidsmith) 38/36

A very interesting straight-up fight that featured the early death of my IC and a TC!

Good game.

Play 600 point games. You get a much larger map and only slightly larger armies.

Haven't ventured out of Classical times in ages, but this looks good, so put me down for Crusaders.

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch results: Punic (Deeter) 43 vs. Rome (Morbio) Although Morbio won, I don't think he posted the result and he's the one who challenged me to enter this comp! I want to thank Mr. fogman for organizing this most excellent competition. It is refreshing to fight an ancient battle that actually res...

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch results:

Pyrrhic (Deeter) 35/40 vs. Rome (fogman) 38/38

A very close and exciting game. The Romans split their legions allowing the bulk of the pikes to fall on one half of the enemy. Even that wouldn't have been enough if the Roman camp hadn't been taken.

Good game!

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch result:

Rome (Deeter) 6/39 vs. Rome (uheng1967) 40/40

The Roman civil war, predictably, resulted in a lot of dead Romans.

Thanks for the game,

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch result:

Phyrus (Deeter) 19/40 vs. Rome (batesmotel) 44/37

Bates was plagued throughout by poor dice. All three of his TCs died in battle. On the final turn, he dropped from 25 AP losses to 44 in a stunning display of mass chain routing. The gods were with me this day.

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC

Rematch result:

Syracus (Deeter) 30/44 vs. Rome (Ulysisgrunt) 38/36

The armies met on an open plain with both ICs manfully fighting each other in the center. A dastardly rear attack by Syracusan infantry settled the affair.

Good game,

Re: Challenges & Results - Classical, season 10

Eric,

As I am only in one time period I have been in no hurry to get started. I've been focusing on other comps but fully intend to play out my LOEG commitments before the season ends. Also been traveling of late, so please don't pull the plug on me just yet.
