Re: Best way to arrange your infantry line?

I have had luck with the checkerboard formations, the second line can sometimes stop or flank charge enemy that has broken your first line troops and pursued into your second line, also helps to plug those holes left by a routing friendly unit. Once again it depends on the situation, I have had luck...

Deadtorius French Catholics (11%) 9.6 pts wins versus Ian David Smith French Huguenot (47%) 4.7 pts. The French lancers were able to charge into and rout most of the Huguenot reiters and Med foot shot units. Swiss saw off a heretic pike and shot unit. Hugenot lancers kept up their reputation by defe...

Re: General tips for a new guy

Light horse are good at running down enemy skirmish units, start in close so when you charge them you will catch the skirmishers in the rear. Setting up on a flank will help keep your shooting casualties down. Turning or moving your shot units will reduce their shooting effectiveness, they generally...

The Danes are appearing to be much tougher than I had originally thought they would be. Thank you Praeter for a great game. Your Danes are keeping up their reputation in our other game so far

Re: Charges/Evades/Outcomes and Obstacles

To charge: You would charge an enemy defending an obstacle, so there would have to be a target enemy touching the obstacle on their side. You would then move up to and in contact with your side of the obstacle and fight from that point. Even though not in direct base contact you would both be consid...

Re: Horse Artillery

Page 30 last bullet point says the target has to be more than 4 MU away. the gun then tests and if passes may shoot and then limber and retire if the shooting does not stop the enemy. So your target has to be more than 4 MU away. If it starts closer than or at 4 MU you could shoot but would have to ...

Re: Flank March Suggestion

I believe its random, can happen to either side. I believe, but don't quote me, that up to 3 units can show up in a flank march. As far as my musty old memory can recall I think that is the larges flank march I have ever had. The game picks the side of arrival and the composition of your flank march...

I'm talking mostly Austria and Russian armies, those are the two armies I run. Like I said not so sure on if it was ok to throw heavies into a mixed division or not.

Re: What I finally ended up going with....nice and vanilla (

Not sure if you can make mixed divisions with heavies, aside from Austria 1805 list in which case it is almost mandatory, usually its light horse or maybe a Dragoon unit in mixed divisions. As for their own division in this case I believe it does mean only heavies in the heavy division, seems to be ...

Re: What I finally ended up going with....nice and vanilla (

What is your army initiative? If its low you are more likely to end up as defender with a competent Corps commander. That means sitting for 2 turns while your opponent chooses when and where to hit. Being a small army you might not have my problem of too many units and no room to move so harder to s...

Re: Game Crash

I've gotten the same message with Leyte as well. I posted to the tech help section with my reports. I can't even launch the Leyte scenario from Philipines Sea any more. I am going to have to put this game on hold till the next update I guess. It can't be played period. I just updated about 2 weeks a...

Re: Flank March Suggestion

If the program has sent part of my force as Flank March: A where , if anywhere, can I see what these units specifically are? B where can I be reminded of what flank they are supposed to arrive on? As far as I know it will tell you in deployment that you have a flank marching force, might even tell ...

Re: Defend in Battle

I was hoping the AI would do the defending. I was unaware that in an open battle I could defend and let the AI come to me. Sometimes I have waited several turns without the AI moving, so aware the clock is ticking down I have made the main moves, when I really wanted to sit behind my hedgerows. I t...

Re: Behemoth - Campaign Thread

I have campaigns and am actually quite glad I have not been asked to fight any battles. My plate is quite full with caracole games right now and my poor old brain is feeling over taxed with great rebellion, carricole 2 and this campaign. I put myself up as a reserve for Keyths Japanese campaign as I...

Re: What I finally ended up going with....nice and vanilla (

Nice paint job on the Saxon Heavies they look great. I agree with what has been said above, keep your lights for rear and flank support and send in the shock to do the real dirty work. I've squashed many a French Hussar with my heavy shock. If you can disorder or waver an enemy infantry unit then th...
