Re: Black Hole Generator usage - how?

Because the damage radius is bigger. If you black hole a tile with your own units next to it you will also kill your own folks or waste your own land when using it in defense.

Re: What are all these numbers?

Xilmi is correct. The faction bonus of the imperium and the experience level is always added to the displayed power because it always counts (both for offense and defense, unlike the attack bonus for Divine Ascension and the attack malus of Terra Salvum). The other factors are displayed when you che...

Re: Quitting Pandora

I would also add that the AI changes are limited to the Beta branch of the game. So it's a little silly to leave the game just because the devs are testing some stuff (which most people actually like btw). You could help to make the difficulty feel better if you'd give some feedback that could be us...

Re: Eclipse of Nashira

Two things have influence on the invasion strength: Troop strength on the planet and alien aggression. So you can:

1. Build more units.
2. Set a higher alien aggression.
3. Use more AIs (with new modded factions up to 8 ) with higher difficulty so they build more troops.

They are called amphibious formers and I think the tech name is similar. You can find it somewhere in the first two rows of the second era.

Re: My journey of improving the AI

Maybe this particular problem could be resolved if you introduce alliances that are formed for such wars and actually work together against a stronger target.

Re: My journey of improving the AI

This could be also a good point to sharpen the personalities of the factions. Togra, Noxium, Terra Salvum and the Ambassadors could prefer the first while the rest could prefer conquering. One could treat the aggression scale as a scale between those two poles.

Re: My journey of improving the AI

But what if the AI has a lot of lowlvl tech left at the end? Then it would waste valuable turns gathering more science it would not need to get those techs.

Re: My journey of improving the AI

* AI will no longer value research once it has enough science for a research-victory. Does this mean the AI will also stop researching if research victory is turned off? If yes, then I think it should be changed to "when it has enough science to research all techs in the game" for this special case....

Re: My journey of improving the AI

You gotta love those ships. :) But it wouldn't have worked if I didn't encounter first the aspidoch who killed my ship and then the leviathan who I could kill by sacrificing one ship and gaining 8 exp and the tech with the other. The Aspidoch was the next to be killed by the stronger ship then and s...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

Often when I ready Xilmi's analyses how the AI should think (what city to take, how much population, how well is it defended, do I have the needed troops, what do I still need (maybe also how good are my trade pacts with the target faction?)) it is exactly how I think about that ingame. :D

Re: Thoughts and feedback from a recent buyer.

Well Pandora is an hommage to Alpha Centauri, so the similarities are wanted. The similarities with Beyond Earth were not in Proxy Studios' hands because Pandora came out one year earlier when no one was even talking about Civ BE. As for the never reused techs I wouldn't agree. There are situations ...

Re: What are the Cons of Conquering Cities in Pandora?

To the topic of conquered cities being too valuable: At first you had not a very strong negative impact from conquering, only temporary morale maluses. Then the conquest migration was introduced to simulate fleeing citizens and make conquest a little less strong. However, the migration was so strong...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

It has to be decided on a case-to case-basis. Maybe stay inside, if the units lingering around the city are stronger and come out if they are weaker. That's more or less what a human player would do so I think you're on the right path here. Also right now exploring the world doesn't work for some r...

That sounds really cool. Especially the paragraphs about actually having the AI planning a war and not only sending units and see what happens.

Re: Diplomatic Strategies?

I think the idea to make the relation changes scale with the difficulty level is very good. In very easy or easy games the effect will still work but not too strong. While on the higher difficulties you will really have to think about attacking someone when you have to deal with other factions attac...

Re: Strategies for playing as The Terra Salvum?

Pretty good analysis imo. In general the economic factions (Teal, Red, Yellow, Green, Orange) are lategame factions because their economic advantage has to develop first while the warmonger factions (Blue and purple) have their biggest strength in the early game with their bonus for units. This simp...

Re: Modders can shut down multiplayer for everyone else

I was there too. We came to the conclusion that it most likely has to do something with the displaying of the factions ingame when you hover over the game name in the MP lobby. If there are factions displayed that your game doesn't know it shuts down. At least that's our theory.
