Re: The case against recon

The observation, that infantry is a much better bait than recon, is absolutely correct.

Highly experienced infantry is sturdy even on open ground. And extremely cheap to "repair".

Re: The case against recon

Not very convincing.

The scouting issue is a non issue for the best method to advance in PC as explained before. Leaves the "close the gap". One non fighting unit per battlegroup (usually 3) for just this purpose? Well, not me ...

Re: The case against recon

Yeah. With later US recon cars that would be Tiger Is in the PC world. An example for too far - in the opposite direction.

Re: Playing the AI - battle proven tricks

I detected all the bait tactics by accident and they were mostly a result of no other viable options when I used them. I solely focus on capturing hexes with the least amount of losses, all other things come natural. But e.g. i sometimes have to park a weak unit besides an AT because it dies not fit...

Re: Losses in dlc 43 Oboyan unit by unit

I specifically went for the DV to encounter the next one. Ironically I was unable to acheive a DV in Kursk Armoury South in my first and only playthrough, but as I captured both KV 85 this is fine with me. The only scenario I know except the last French one where I found the scenario turn limit to b...

Re: Playing the AI - battle proven tricks

I don´t really care if an enemy air unit survives. With my method, that I apply regardless of many enemy air or no enemy air, I minimize my losses from air so far very much, compared to the previous playthrough. Only btw - I had it more than once that a recovered enemy fighter 10 strength, no stars,...

Re: Captured units - Use them?

I hope it´s not too unfair - but I simply beleive the devs did not even consider any option here in depth, they just took the proven PG concept, finished. Which is totally acceptable, as it was a minor issue ... before the SoftCap. Btw your example shows why the simple question of keeping or disband...

Playing the AI - battle proven tricks

One addition. Your enemy general is the AI. Thus he will NOT do what a sound battle commander would do, but do outright crazy things. If you guide him into these things. 1) Baits The bomber bait - place an artillery in view of the AI, place a fighter or an AA outside this view just behind The AT bai...

The case against recon

Reviewing my forces prior Prokhorovka I noticed something odd: I still have a carefully nurtured recon car at 3 stars strength 1 in my core reserve, not used at least for 10 scenarios. Now normally I am an information junkie, so the question is - why? And the answer is easy: 1) Too many spotting her...

Re: Captured units - Use them?

Char B are one of the very questionable performance designs of the dev team. While the attack and defense might be okay, the initiative should be close to 0. Char Bs operated with one man turrets, thus its inhabitant was supposed to operate as commander, gunner and loader for the anti tank gun in th...

Re: [Suggestion] Heroes with + Ammo perk

Yep, there was the saver hero halving (!) ammo consumption. Priceless for the few units with very limited ammo, most noticeable AA, especially Russian/Chinese AA with its stock of 3. Although i would love such a hero for artillery units and for Pioniere/paratroopers, I would hate to waste a slot for...

Re: Losses in dlc 43 Oboyan unit by unit

Normally I only use a couple. But in Orel you get 2 GebJg 43 with interesting heroes. As GebJg are my standard infantry anyway I converted both - one to Grenadiere, the other one to Pioniere especially for the Kursk scenarios (lots of minefields e.g. in Yakovlevo, a one shot story for Pioniere only)...

Losses in dlc 43 Oboyan unit by unit

I am kind of a number fetishist. So I wrote down the starting situation in Oboyan, the prestige at the end, the starting prestige in the successor scenario Kursk Armoury South and the final prestige after all the units were exactly the strength they started Oboyan with. Ans it´s much less bad as my ...

Re: AT units pros and cons

All PzC units except conscripts have the same basic strength. This leaves one and only one unit size if someone wants to think of PzC icons as real units - bataillons. Any armour bataillon in whatever WW2 army never had integrated infantry support, this support was earliest provided on regimental, b...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

MAX: The only game I remember ever where the campaign forced me to restart several scenarios not one time but actually 2 times before I performed good enough. For comparison - PG in slightly above average difficulty only forced a restart one time, in the Norway scenario. There were not too many turn...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

@Marty:

Especially if you make it historically accurate (meaning giving the player the historical French forces WITHOUT their incompetent leadership) a French campaign could be fun.

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

@THvN: Nice to see somebody remembering MAX. While the standard game was 100% boring because the AI was unable to even remotely cope with the speed an aggressive player accumulated resources, the campaign was the hardest and best designed I have ever seen on a strategy- or wargame. By design, not by...
