Re: AT units pros and cons

@THvN: My artillery comment had 2 components - first one was that I think arty is a bit too strong especially against armour in the early dls. But mainly you are right - its a question of the available amount. It should simply be impossible to field 25% of your core in arty, which seems to be some c...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

Marty, although we know that France has lost astonishingly fast, the outcome was neither predictable nor inevitable. In tanks, artillery, air, manpower the continental forces of France (together with its British ally) were on par with the Germans. It would be absolutely no problem to set up a fictio...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

Once you realize PzC simply can't simulate all the things decisive for real battlefields - doctrine, training, leadership, logistics, communication - it becomes easy to realize that PzC in no stage of the campaigns and in no scneario ever resembles the real war, not even close. It's a game. And if y...

Re: AT units pros and cons

Just an additional piece of useless information - in Yakovlevo and Oboyan dlc 43 I used Marder III H with good success. In Oboyan its basicslly these guys plus a StuG III G plus an Elephant with the help of 2 Hummels dwarfing the complete armoured counterattack in the southeast on their own. I agree...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

@ThvN: Just 2 additional remarks: In 1941/42 the real problem will be the KVs. I would buy this one solely as long as prestige allows, as they are so much superior to all the alternatives that T34 would never show up in my core. Air Force is hardly the counter, as a decent player will learn to use h...

Re: Allied Corps way to easy?

@ThvN: If they really give the player early access to the full Soviet equipment, the only chance to balance the scenarios are giving the Germans ridiculous amounts of units. PC is like all "lite" tactical wargames unable to model the real German advantages - doctrine, training, tactical awareness, m...

Re: The Ottoman Defence - Viable or not?

A bit too much theory for my taste. I yet have to see the scenario where you have to deploy units into positions for an immediate loss (played until first one of 44 so far). Why should you even deploy in this case, I would simply keep the spots empty. But we will see. I just replayed the whole dlcs ...

Re: One advice.. This is getting extremely fun

Ooops, Bonesoul, my fault. You're right of course and as a PG veteran I made the mistake to take my knowledge of the game basics (terrain, units strengths and weaknesses, combined arms value etc.) for granted. Yes, of course it is very useful to know how the AI behaves. I just could not imagine dedu...

Re: The Ottoman Defence - Viable or not?

@Bonesoul: No. Not cost efficient. In order to make the strategy viable you need to buy at least decent green units - StuG III G for the open. 10 of these already cost 3,500 prestige. And that would be much better spent on Tigers (I or II depending on dlc), Panthers and FW 190. Most cost efficient s...

Re: One advice.. This is getting extremely fun

@Bonesoul: Regarding deducters videos I tend to disagree. He needed appr. 4x the time to think through pretty obvious moves, there is really not that much to learn except you are completely new to tactical wargames. Really exceptional was his ability to spot AI behaviour patterns (or look after them...

Re: AT units pros and cons

In whichever way you would try to remodel economy, Germany would no longer be playable from 43 forward. Because you would have to model shortages in spare parts, in fuel, in ammunition, in other fighting equipment, in manpower etc. as well, the solution to limit certain units is just an artificial r...

Re: AT units pros and cons

Rezaf: Basically correct, unfortunately. Without the soft cap there is a very small time slot where AT are slightly better than the available tanks - in 1940 as PzJg I against Somuas and Char B1 and in late 1943 as Elephants against JS I. Early the 88 or the Ju 87 already fill that gap, and better. ...

AT units pros and cons

Following a path originated from captainjack I experimented with some AT units (now 4) in my core starting with the 3,7 from 39 and coupled with some PzJg I as soon as these were available instead of tanks. Some observations: Cheap firepower, cheap to overstrenth, horrible upgrade paths (always side...

Re: Captured units - Use them?

KV 1 B and C are very decent blockers even after Tigers are available. They really rarely take more than 1 or 2 damage against up to T34/43, especially experienced, even if they are not often the first ones to shoot. The T34/40 is good for the time captured (best German tank IV E/F is clearly inferi...

Re: 3 captured KV 1 b???

Streets of Moscow, thank you bonesoul, I just remember now. @ThvN: No, I did not mention the KV 1 A as this one was already sold. I am not even sure I went for the one in Vyazma scenario before the mentioned save. I like the 1B and 1C as both are absolutely great blockers due to their insane ground ...

3 captured KV 1 b???

For comparison I just opened an older (3 weeks) save of Belgorod (dlc 43). And noticed something odd - I had 3 captured KV 1 B and 2 KV 1 C. According to the captured units database this is not possible. I should have 2 KV 1 B, captured in the Smolensk and the Voronezh scenarios in dlc 41 and 42 res...

Re: Panzer II Flamm: Hot or not?

Not me. I am already struggling with the design decision to make units available as core that where historically produced in very small numbers or only existed as prototypes (Flamm, Sturmpanzer I, the Maus - which would have been a useless tank on the battlefield - for the AI the KV 2 or the never p...

Re: Spawning rules

Unfortunately the AI spawn mechanism is neither consistent nor does it have a reliable influence on scenario difficulty. Just as an example - being fast and efficient in the "Escape from Stalingrad" scenario you can easily end it 4 to 6 turns before deadline. I might still see some of the KV1c or a ...

Re: Casualties or not casualties, that is the question

I caused a misperception: I meant 1.3 stars (135 experience) in 8 turns (acquired turn 6, first action turn 7, no defensive fire, just 6 times fired as arty and 1 turn fired as AT finishing a Churchill - it was a SU 122). Still a lot but far from 2 or especially 3 stars. But if I compare that to the...

You'll find another piece of answer here: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=47918&p=451332&hilit=Experience+gains#p451332 Better seems to mean higher ground defense. I can't state anything regarding exp as I never bothered to look in deatail. I hoarded and trained enough units by...
