Re: Cavalry Corps???

Getting a balance for mounted v squares is tough. One good thing about FoGN IMO is that tabletop cavalry commanders have a go against squares - which is highly realistic (they charged squares all the time historically). We didn't want to lose this game dynamic by making squares immune to mounted. I ...

I'll have to set this up on the coffee table and have a close look at the rules.

Re: Cavalry Corps???

There have been a couple of players in Melbourne that have run Cav corps, with considerable success I understand. A sensible opponent will not engage in a cavalry fight to deny you easy points, but instead tuck their mounted behind squares. So the key is to have a set of tactics to break a square or...

Yes, I agree with Richard. Cossacks can either evade an infantry assault, or (with successful CT), counter-charge them.

Re: V2 Turks

Is there any thoughts on where the turkish list will go in the future? I'm still pretty keen on getting a turkish army. On Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky's 2 volume "Russo-Turkish War of 1806-12" thinking of getting this ,is it worthwhile ? (I know it's skimpy of the Ottomans) I think the proposed changes...

I don't think it is.
But it should be. Thanks for noticing, I've made a note to cover this off.

Re: Unreformed Inf Point less?

I believe that they get to move as reformed but still shoot as unreformed (ie the opposite of Brits) Martin Yup. See page 8 under 'Troops - Infantry'. We'll also make mention of this in the relevant v2 army lists. Modelling 1813 Austrians this way is an attempt to represent the evolution over to co...

Re: Revised Saxon 1809??

Hi Blathergut Not yet, sorry. The initial process of converting v1 lists into v2 compatible lists is almost complete. However stage two in this process is to review individual lists to see if they should be changed (ie minimums, maximums, classifications, allies etc), and also to what new lists can ...

Re: V2 Cavalry heavy v light in Terrain

The latest version has all mounted who are not in the open losing all of their normal bonuses for being on a horse. So all mounted will get 4 dice (for 'other situations') needing a 4+ to hit (except for irregular light cavalry, who need their usual 5+) So hussars and cuirassiers are on even combat ...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

It's not the output of guard that makes them scary, it's that they can take up to 5 hits in combat and only be disordered. They have a decent chance of winning combats by way of dropping their opponents 2 levels, but only dropping 1 level themselves. It's not superior veteran guards that are a conce...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

I wouldn't read too much into Andrew Duncan winning with them. He's probably NZ's best player so would have done well with anything, I'm sure. I had a club game on Sunday against Duncan. Andy came 1st in Melbourne and I came 2nd, however we did not end up playing each other over the ditch. A chance...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

Hi Kit Ok, so you were meaning to say that disordered units should not pursue disordered opponents, rather than saying that disordered units should not pursue, full stop. Very good. Richard has reformatted the Combat Results Table since the Melbourne comp and I can confirm that under the revised tab...

Re: V2 Cavalry heavy v light in Terrain

We are considering a simplification to essentially remove all the various combat modifiers for being on a horse while in rough/difficult. So mounted will get 4 dice ('other' situations) hitting on 4+, or 5+ if Cossacks or opponents are in square. Flank/rear support and artillery attachments still ap...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

I think that fixing your combat result table, the outcomes table and its interaction with the pass through rule is of much more importance than faffing about with a perceived guards problem. Richard is reworking the combat result table in the hope of making it clearer. We'll have a look at the outc...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

Just on unreformed infantry, I've found them to have benefitted massively under V2. I consider them to be competitive with reformed armies. - They can now move 6MU (when outside of 6Mu of enemy). This is huge. It removes what I believe to be the single biggest disadvantage of unreformed under v1 - t...

Re: Irregular/Conscipt units lead by Brigade commanders and

Nice question. My view is that you need 2cps to do a complex move for irregs/conscripts. A bc can provide 1 of these but the other must come from a dc. If that dc is out of range, it will be +1 needed, for a total of 3. This is in line with the general principal of 2 gets you 1 if outside of range. ...
