Re: Works in progress

Hi again. We've had various (unresolved!) debates on this and other sites about what constitutes a 'historical' battle: once it diverges from what actually happened is it any longer the Battle of Naseby/Breitenfeld/Waterloo/ect? For me, allowing players a free deployment option, or too much leeway, ...

Error message Failed to fetch data from battle state: sizes

Hi, played a couple of turns of a random battle using P&S via the MP server, all fine. Now, trying to open latest turn, I get the error message Failed to fetch data from battle state: sizes do not match: state 179!=call: 4 (0 ) Running Windows 10, all other P&S Campaigns and several other games work...

Re: Works in progress

Hi Lancier One of the features of this engine (which I very much like) is that it's designed to give quite an 'antique print' look to the units. This works well for the period for which it was intended, i.e. Pike and Shot, where most infantry carry pikes. These have to be deleted for scenarios after...

Re: Works in progress

Cheers, nice to know they're appreciated: I'm working on Dresden, 1813, now, but I need to paint Austrian and Prussian (and perhaps Saxon) units.

Re: Works in progress

2) Junot's Westphalians and Pontiowski's Poles assault the Bagration Fleches: the AI has thrown in the Moscow Opolchenye (miltia) in an effort to hold them. 3) Davout's corps has taken Borodino village and is facing off against the Raevski Redoubt, but now faces a counter-attack by Lavrov's Russian ...

The Imperial Guard marches through the Grand Battery along the New Moscow Road to support Davout's assault on the Russian Guard Jaegers defending Borodino.

Re: Works in progress

Since Napoleonics seems reasonably popular, although the game isn't really designed for it, I'll try Borodino next. In fact it's in playtesting now, MP and SP (French) versions.

Re: Late Roman infantry bows

I've wondered about 'integral' bowmen who can't shoot. Is it Appian who has them in his ideal formation, but shooting overhead? I can't see how letting such a unit have limited firepower would spoil the overall system.

Re: Specific scenario running slowly + bugs

Thanks both. I've modded flags in several other MP scenarios and haven't had this issue, and the repeating javelins must (?) indicate that there's something else going on. I've played another MP vs Hendrikus and it ran OK, so I think he must have a reasonable PC. Mine's an x64-based PC using Intel C...

Specific scenario running slowly + bugs

Hi, not sure this qualifies as a technical support issue, but is there any sort of checker than be run over my scenario Teutoburger Wald? I thought that it was running slowly when I was playtesting it, but put it down to my own PC being below par. However I've just played a full game with Hendrikcus...

Re: Magnificent DLC

I'm going to be the fly in the ointment and say that I'd prefer the series to move forward in time, if only because the troop types and battles are more fully documented. I know we've the Bible, and bits from archaeology, but surely Assyrians and Babylonians, let alone the lads from Elam and Moab an...

Re: Battle winner when turns run out

There is an option for the designer to specify the winner in the event of neither side reaching the required casualty conditions. So, for example, if you know that historically one side advanced and achieved a mighty victory, you might well include a condition that in the event of a draw that side i...

Re: On skirmish editing

You're very welcome to use any of my units if they're useful. I prefer 'historical' battles, but it would save time from having to draw new ones. No Austrians though, sorry!

Re: Works in progress

I'm going to have a crack at Salamanca 1812, next. A lot of the units can be borrowed from Vitoria. Quite an interesting battle, I'll try for MP and SP both sides if it's practical.

Re: Defending a line

No joy unfortunately, the BSF accepted the script after some wrestling with the right number of {, but it didn't affect Team 5's actions in the battle, they weren't triggered by Side 0's units entering that area.. Do I dimly remember from our P&S days that these areas can't be single lines, but have...

Defending a line

Hi again I want side 1,Team 5 to defend a line of wagons, so initially set them to 64. The line runs from 39,47 to 39,26. After (if) the line is breached by any of Side 0 except light troops, Team 5 needs to be released to attack them wherever they are on general attack 16, + ignoring light troops 1...

What effect does lowering the weapon %age have?

I notice that the recent IF release has seen the emergence of units with 50% of some weapon categories. I know the calculations are too complicated to explain so simply, but is it broadly that only that %age of the units get the PoA in melee? So a unit with 500 men, only 50% of whom have Swordsmen w...

Figures from other scenarios

What would happen if someone designed an Epic Battle for the Rise of Rome era, but used one or more figures from Immortal Fire? What would players who only owned Rise of Rome see if they downloaded it (could they even?) Those famous blue blobs, or nothing, or it just wouldn't work, period? Some figu...
