Re: 'Animation State'

No idea what that is, but probably if that's what causes it. How do I turn it off?

'Animation State'

Is it my imagination or has this only just started appearing when you mouse over a unit? It doesn't seem to relate to the unit's ability so I can't see what use it is.

Probably tell me it's been there from the release and I've been drunk ever since.

Re: AI controlled units in forest visible during deployment

Thanks Richard, that's given me the length but not the width, as the bishop probably said to the actress, but I see the principle and will tinker around. I can see that it will work if done properly.

Cheers

Re: AI controlled units in forest visible during deployment

Hi Richard I'm trying to use this for a Teutoburger Wald scenario: Romans side 0, I want the ambushing Germans hidden (if appropriate) from the start. This scripting does what it says on the tin, i.e. the Germans are invisible from the start, BUT it also seems to prevent the Romans moving at all - y...

Re: Pushbacks (again)

Interesting tales, but maybe I didn't make my original point very clearly: my beef was with friendly fragmented lights being used to hold their heavier colleagues in place. I understand the reluctance to let light units do it just to cause extra disruption to enemy units fighting other friends, alth...

Pushbacks (again)

I know we discussed this in relation to units that would otherwise be pushed back holding firm without any penalty if prevented by terrain, but I see that players are using the same technique for friendly units. If you position even a fragmented light behind one of your units in melee, and the latte...

For gregsha30

Hi, accepted your MP Weimar vs Russia game but, when I try to open the first (deployment) turn, it says that the enemy has lost heart and I've won! Maybe a server issue, or could you have failed to deploy any troops in the initial phase? I'll try again in an hour or so but otherwise Houston, we have...

Re: Raw unit usefulness?

My two cents would be that Raw troops are balanced about right for cost and effectiveness. As the posts above say, it's how you use them that makes all the difference. Also, from a historical point of view, not winning tournaments or campaigns, several armies did field them so they should be represe...

Re: Can't load 4...

Got it, works fine now, and looks like an excellent upgrade.

I was using our friend Windows 10, but I think we can blame my technical incompetence rather than the system.

Cheers

Re: Banners

Thanks for replying, just recovering from the jolly festivities. For Milvian Bridge I copied my Mantinea, which has two sets of banners, red with a golden eagle clutching a snake and a wreath at the bottom, and blue ditto. As it turns out Constantine's army (side 1) gets the blue and Maxentius' (sid...

Banners

In my Milvian Bridge scenario I'd like the Constantine Army - side 1 - to use red banners with the chi-ro sign for the generals' units (the smaller unit flags are too fiddly). As it stands the two sides are using blue banners (Constantine, side 1) and red banners (Maxentius, side 0), the ones with t...

Re: Kill the King scenario?

I thought that might be it and wasn't too surprised when the bodyguard routing didn't do it, but after it dispersed... So that would mean that, at Cunaxa, Cyrus' household unit is utterly destroyed but the rebel army fights on? My gut feeling would be that dispersal = dead = loss. Or is there a way ...

Kill the King scenario?

For a Milvian Bridge Epic Battle I want the death of either Emperor (who are the two c-in-cs) to finish the game in favour of the survivor, even if the 40% hasn't been reached. I copied the Cunaxa 'Set Variable Scenario 6' into the Milvian Bridge BSF, and started an MP game. I can see that the victo...

Re: Auto-evasion

This probably sounds odd, and doesn't work for dedicated tournament players, but I suspect that "...gut feeling, past experience and guessing at the relative weight of factors involved..." perfectly sums up what most Ancient/Classical/Medieval generals actually felt on a battlefield. IMHO these sort...

Re: Unit fall backs?

So, for example, what would happen wargame-wise if I were to design a Milvian Bridge scenario, where Emperor Maxentius - for reasons best known to himself - defended Rome in front of the Tiber after carefully having destroyed the main bridge which was his only route to safety? Historically his infer...
